He says of himself that his faith is what keeps him from doing bad things (or words to that effect), and I have no reason to doubt that, so Christianity may indeed have had a salubrious effect on his character (relative to what his character might be without it). Moreover, he is not alone; there are quite a lot of people who cannot do right and forbear wrong unless there is ...[text shortened]... ious effect on my character, nor do I need the threat of a lake of fire to refrain from doing wrong.
Self-righteous, much?

What motivates Christians to taunt each other like this by engaging in futile intellectual duels which consist of quoting a bit of Scripture and challenging each other to interpret it?

Atheists don't do this, you know. Atheists don't go around quoting some bit of Bertrand Russell or Christopher Hitchens and accusing each other of either ignoring it or incorrectly interpreting it.

What a simply bizarre lot you are.
There are basically two types of Christians -

- the ones who go to church and are taught a doctrine of professing faith alone and that is sufficient for eternal life.

- the ones who take to heart the teachings of Christ pertaining to good works, righteousness, love for ones neighbour as the sole road to eternal life.

You decide which one of these two groups are pleasing to God.

I don't think so old chap. The Bible is riddled with manufactured events to fulfill OT prophecies. Take for example the nonsense of the census that had Joseph take his family back to his place of birth, merely to fulfill the prophecy of Jesus's birth.

And the mark of the beast thing could (and has)) been applied to a whole host of historical occurrences. I really don't think the Bible was prophesying about Bill Gates.
I have a friend who is convinced that the Bile is a Kazarian conspiracy and is what written, and then events engineered to make apparent prophicy come true. Are you saying that there was no census around the time of Juesus birth?

I was suggesting that tha Mark was referring to Bill Gates, I'm merely suggesting that he is effectively an enabler. I've followed this line for some years including numerous interviews and presntations that he has given and I would suggest this to you (it's almost getting like a wwg game) ;- the mark is the vacciner passport and will start as an ap on phones. It will then quickly switch to something on the body (I have seen that something on video, and if you are into tattoos you would take it as it does look very nice as body jewlry) called a quantum tatoo. Dismis me if you wish Sir, but please don't forget the conversation.

@moonbus

I agree. Instead of talking things though we have this combatative position. Where is the love? Wow I might write a song about that :-)

I think you have highlighted two positions; being religious and being spiritual.

The two are not the same.

Never said they were.

This is a false choice.

Most Christians both believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah *and* do good works and do their best to keep the commandments, knowing there will always be a struggle to do the latter as long as they are in the flesh - as the Apostle Paul noted in Romans 7 and Galatians.

Your view that each group is separate is false. Man couldn’t keep the commandments in the Old Testament. What makes you think he can keep them now?

Keeping the commandments is “the sole root to eternal life?” How is that different from the Old Covenant? I think you’re an Orthodox Jew. You’re certainly not a Christian or follower of Christ. You completely ignore what He accomplished on the cross and the New Covenant. Plus, you have no forgiveness of sins. When was the last time you sacrificed an animal to atone for your sins?

Bertrand Russell and Christopher Hitchens aren’t the Word of God.

I think you missed the point.

Most Christians think the Bible is the Word of God. That’s why it’s worth debating interpretations and meanings.

No one thinks written works by Bertrand Russell or Christopher Hitchens are the Word of God, which is why no one debates them.

Just because atheists don’t think the Bible is the Word of God doesn’t mean it’s not and doesn’t mean Christians share the atheists’ view.

The “Whoosh” is entirely on you.

How embarrassing.

Deceiver and full of lies there is one type of Christian, those who are right with God through Jesus Christ. There are several who claim they are Christ’s but without the Spirit of God, they are not the Lord’s, they will hear the words from Jesus, “I never knew you.” No matter how many things they claim were done by them in Jesus’ name.

Nope. The Whoosh means that you missed moonbus's point. The "worth" you just so happen to place on some writings that support your speculations regarding supernatural matters is beside the point.

Do you think "incorrect" thoughts ~ by which I mean "incorrect" according to you ~ in the mind of a follower of Jesus can result in damnation? Do you believe different interpretations have different consequences in terms of the "salvation" of a follower of Jesus?

Is there any way of knowing whether or not you are "Christ’s" and "the Lord’s"? Is the only way to tell by seeing how many texts from the Bible you copy-paste into your posts?
