From Eve's perspective it was a talking snake. in reality I think that somebody(thing) was throwing their voice. It's a good decription of the deception.

Agreed. It might be safe to say that the snakes lips might have moved a bit.

I had an uncle once who could do a bit of ventriloquism and make the dog talk. A five year old would swallow it hook line and sinker.
