@terrierjack saidI suggested FMF read the Holy Bible and ask God (not me) for enlightenment. I didn’t suggest other readings or suggest he listen to my beliefs.
@PB1022 Which one? Is there a list of readings that you approve? Will you read my list or only your own? Why should your judgement be preferred over others? What if you are wrong?
As far as which Bible to read, I prefer the KJV, but I think that’s a matter of personal preference. My only advice in that regard is choose a Bible that has “virgin” and not “young woman” in Isaiah 7:14.
@josephw saidWere you always a believer, brought up in the faith, or were you born-again into it?
I believe whatever God tells me.
I've got the edge on whoever denies God's existence.
That belief sticks in the craw of the disbeliever.
But isn't that the reason for all these debates?
Naysayer vs believer. Forever and always the crux of the matter.
When you say you believe whatever god tells you, how do you 'hear' god?
Also, what do you mean when you say your belief sticks in the craw of the disbeliever?
@PB1022 You realize there are many active disputes about what is a Holy Bible? Narrowing down to the translation of a particular word hasn't really clarified anything. Some people think the Bhagavad Gita, The Book of Giants, or the Koran are 'THE' Holy Bible. Why should I believe you about anything when you seem NOT to know that?
"Old rodeos and livestock shows
Keep the lady on the go
Lord, she loves to run those barrels
And it's the only life she knows"

@pb1022 saidOf course, the original cover of the Bible had a disclaimer:
I suggest choosing a Holy Bible that has Holy Bible written on the cover.
'The story, all names, characters, and incidents portrayed in this book are fictitious. No identification with actual persons (living or deceased), places, buildings, and products is intended or should be inferred.'
As for the argument introduced by the original poster and the replies about whether anything was 'hidden', I suggest:
https://www.amazon.com/Hiddenness-Argument-Philosophys-Challenge-Belief/dp/0198733089
Read books! You can learn things. This one was particularly interesting even tho I am not very concerned with the issue.
@terrierjack saidIt’s the only true and legitimate parade going on.
@PB1022 So, this one has that name, 'The Book.'
I suggest this:
https://www.amazon.com/Book-Taboo-Against-Knowing-Who/dp/0679723005
It might allow you to see that your parade is not the only one going on.
False gods existed in Biblical times too. Just like they exist today.
And your link is to something called The Book, not the Holy Bible.
@ghost-of-a-duke saidSurely you don’t believe that statement.

Only the truly uninformed think the people in the Holy Bible didn’t exist.
@pb1022 saidHumour is wasted on the hairy backed.
Surely you don’t believe that statement.

@ghost-of-a-duke saidNot if they’re knock knock or dad jokes.
Humour is wasted on the hairy backed.
@pb1022 saidAdam and Eve certainly didn't exist and were obviously figurative.

@ghost-of-a-duke saidI disagree. But I’m not an evolutionist.
Adam and Eve certainly didn't exist and were obviously figurative.
And if Adam and Eve didn’t exist, the ramifications of that go well beyond Genesis.
@pb1022 saidAbsolutely. No original sin.

@ghost-of-a-duke saidGood point for a Christian who’s also an evolutionist.
Absolutely. No original sin.
