Yes, I am new but everything I need (or want) to know about my potential opponents is here in this forum - along with the games on user's profiles. I am a very thorough individual and won't take a game on until I have done my research.

I spend a lot of time on a game when I play. I don't want that to be wasted effort.
I am a bit baffled why you would care about a 2400 when you can play max 5 games as a non-sub and the likelihood of 2200+ agreeing to play you is almost zero.

Let's face it, anyone with the desire to work at chess enough to reach the top will also show so ...[text shortened]... discussions? But yet find the interest to work hard on their games at the highest level?
There are also examples of players who posted lots, posted in favour of game mods, posted about their games and were subsequently banned

User 68295 3 pages The number 1 player on the site for many years
User 251755 26 pages
User 241455 1 post
User 295466 2 posts
User 86517 73 pages A contentious banning as the player was also a game mod

There are many more examples and as such it is impossible to surmise that a player who posts in the forums, but does not post about chess, does not have passion for the game.

Hi nimzo5

You have obviously missed the point of that post. It was a response to one earlier. Silverstriker queried how I know some stuff as a newbie. I replied that I read the forums. You can read all that before signing up, after all (actually visited the site to read the GP blogs).

I've read your profile. Engine use is an issue that is of interest to you. If you thought that this site was full of engine users I'm sure you would not have subscribed. You obviously did your due diligence and I am doing mine.

I'm new to correspondence (or internet) chess, having spent my life playing OTB. A good friend of mine is very active on this site and has for some months been trying to get me to join for the odd game. I probably will do that, but just prefer to play him face-to-face.

When you joined, no doubt you played against some modest opposition before getting to your true level. Maybe you are not at it yet! But now that you are there or nearly there, your opponents are not the same modest lot you played when you first signed up. Outside influence wasn't an issue for those early games but now they may start to be.

This site looks good. Maybe I shouldn't have posted anything before I'd played games here for a few months. I doubt I'd be able to finish a game in a few months though. I just wanted to make one observation about the competition between players on the first page (they don't seem to play each other often) & about how the No#1 on this site is possibly able to maintain that consistent standard. You can't lose points to the competition if you don't play them! Why you don't play them is a different question.

Thanks & I do hope to play some good games against some of you at some point.

Hi Robbie,

It's good to know you occasionally like to mix it up in these "hot" threads. (I have a little less desire to get involved these days.)

But I should mention that you merely have to listen to Bobby's very first live radio interview from Budapest, Hungary, January 13, 1999. (Near the end of part 1 - 19:40 minute mark to 19:55 minute mark.)

Keep stirring the pot; It keeps stuff from settling to the bottom. 🙂

mmm, i remember listening to them a while back, was it where he states that the Jews are not the persecuted but the persecutors? or words to that effect? As for stirring these things up, i never meant to get involved, it just happened, I mean what the heck was i thinking, Lol, like yeah Skeeter your mine women! I am coming to getcha! what a an utterly outrageous thing to say, i kind of regret it a bit, but some of the points that others made were excellent! Kind regards to you and yours great and illustrious Maddened Rook, you know that your input is always welcome and well received 🙂

Hi PR.

I would not read anything into a throw away post about having a crib sheet.
If it's what works then let it be.

Skeets has more losses than anyone in the top 10. (191)
I've not looked at her losses, I just did a search for games ending in a mate.
but 191 losses does hint at a certain amount of clumsiness going on.

My example No.6 shows this. I gave her a bolt hole by saying it was mouse slip.
She truthly admitted she meant it! it was just a clumsy move.

Your a good player, you know one chief aspect of being a good player
is knowing yourself and your weakness's.
She admits she is prone to silly moves the note is there to stop it.

I've not been one for flipping boards and the King postion is 2nd nature
but I do check all checks unless I'm in a mid combination or facing a
forced move.

She's No.1, I'm not so I am not going to knock or pull holes in anything
that people do if their track record is proof it works for them.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi some other lad.

As for her reluctance to play other strong players....so what...it's legal.
She has crept to the No1 spot and lets face it 2381 is hardly a world
shattering grade.

I could be setting myself up for a kicking here, I never really look go
to other chess sites. What are the grades of the No.1 players there?
(perhaps one of the lads can fill in the details)

I know on chess.com they have loads of players over 2600.

Can you imagine the rocks that would get hurled at a 2600 player on here?
I think the highest grade Big Ron got was 2460 and he got pelters.

If Skeets wants to avoid the good guys and sneak up the table playing 1.c4 then
there is nothing anyone can do about it. A good ploy.
It's what I would do . (no....I would not play 1.c4).

I've never beaten a 2000+ on here. My OTB nonsense does work here.
When I play these guys I look like mug. I'm 1970 by beating 1400's.

Can we not accept that perhaps we have a good player at No1
who is there by craft. It's possible.

BTW it's not the first time Skeets has been No.1. there was none of this
carry on last time.

Could it be that was because there were not so many banned players
then who have crept back on here with axes to grind. (Just a thought.)

You have to accept everyone is sound and let the mods do their thing.
They got Big Ron after 465 games (1 loss).
The lass had played 1540 games and has no doubt been analysed time
and time again as have all the front page.

Just noticed I have a fan. King Nebuchadnezzar

How many have left the site because of the GP blogs. 🙁

I'm sorry - I never intended my post to sound in any way derogatory. I was trying to give a complement and it came out wrong. I think skeeter is very intelligent in opponent selection. That's all I was trying to say.
Skeeter, please accept my apologies.
Geoff - Thanks for helping me clarify.

Hi King N.

Was not thinking about you or anyone else really in particuliar.

I was just specualting....seems to be the theme of thread.

Perhaps should not post when I've had a few.
Had to log on when I came home to email the Edinburgh Club that I
will be along tonight. Posted in the chess and alcohol thread.

Made cup fo tea, watched some telly, fell asleep, woke up and posted
here. Hence the 4 hour gap in between posts.

Now have hangover.
