Israel generally is able to customize its imported vehicles to top quality through their own efforts. They have enormous financial, political, scientific and intelligence resources for a country of their size.

Yes that is typical of China. They buy just enough of something to reverse engineer it and then manufacture it themselves. It makes it very difficult for any country to make money selling their advanced arms to China.

It was an interesting article. It looks like the Russians have just given up trying to stop the Chinese from copying.

The S-400 *might* be different and I'd love to know the answer. If the Chinese copy it and sell it
they are taking business away from Russia.

Russia has bitter memories of this:
China has long copied Russian weaponry. During the 1990s, China purchased Russia's elite Su-27 fighter jets and S-300 missile systems. Beijing later used these as templates for developing its own J-11 fighter jet and HQ-9 surface-to-air missiles.

Such blatant reverse engineering alarmed many in the Russian arms industry, prompting Moscow to push back against the theft, explained Vadim Kozyulin, director of the Asian Security Project at the PIR Center.

----

So do the Ruskies let it happen again to the Su-35 and the S-400?
If they have a scaled down version of the S-400 made for the Chinese, they could have sold that to the Turks , too

Tricky business.

Merkava is similar in capability to other top quality tanks like Abrams or Leopard II with the possible exception of the new Russian tank which is of unknown capability. The Merkava is optimized differently but it is on that level of quality.

@Duchess64

With all the expensive blather, I have one question for you, How come the Chinese bought just "a few" S-400's, or any at all?

Duchess, I am not judging China, I am only putting in here what they copied.

you agree with me that China copied the Su-27 and S-300, so now why I am I such a bastid for questioning
(not accusing them) whether China will do this with other advanced Russian military pieces?

you are to o defensive.
