    Contemplate the mind;
    This king of emptiness
    Is subtle and abstruse.
    Without shape or form,
    It has great spiritual power.
    It can eliminate all calamities
    And accomplish all merits.
    Though its essence is empty,
It is the measure of dharmas.

It is a spiritual axiom that every time we are disturbed, no matter what the cause, there is something wrong with us.

    Lao-tze said to cultivate
    Tranquility and detachment.
To be natural means not to force things.
    When you act natural,
    You get what you need,
But to know what is natural,
    You have to cultivate tranquility.

lookie what i found by accident
it doesn't describe enlightenment, other than by subtraction, but, that's an accident too
    https://www.dailyzen.com/

    Meditation is not
    A way to enlightenment,
    Nor is it a method
    Of achieving anything at all.
It is peace and blessedness itself.
It is the actualization of wisdom,
    The ultimate truth
Of the oneness of all things.

    For penetrating to the depths
    Of one’s own true self-nature,
    And attaining a vitality
    Valid on all occasions,
    Nothing can surpass
Meditation in the midst of activity.

    When most people hear
    That the Buddhas transmit the
    Teaching of the One Mind,
    They suppose that there
    Is something to be attained
    Or realized apart from mind,
And they use mind to seek the teaching,
    Not realizing that mind and
The object of their search are one.
    Mind can’t be used to seek mind;
If it is, even after millions of eons
Have gone by, the search will still not be over.

    If the eye never sleeps,
    All dreams will naturally cease.
If the mind makes no discriminations,
    The ten thousand things
Are as they are, of one single essence.
To understand the mystery of the One-essence
Is to be released from all entanglements.
When all things are seen equally
    The timeless Self-essence is reached.
No comparisons or analogies are possible
    In this causeless, relationless state.

    The seed of mystery
    Lies in muddy water.
How can I perceive this mystery?
    Water becomes clear
    Through stillness.
    How can I become still?
    By flowing with the stream.

    The truth of Zen,
    Just a little of it,
    Is what turns one’s
    Life of monotonous,
    Commonplace actions,
    Into one of art,
    Full of genuine inner creativity.

When you set out to look for the Way,
At once it changes to something
That is to be sought in your self.
    When sight becomes no-sight,
You come to possess the jewel,
But you have not yet fully penetrated into it.
Suddenly one day everything is empty like space
That has no inside or outside, no bottom or top,
And you are aware of one principle
Pervading all the ten thousand things.
You know then that your heart
Is so vast that it can never be measured.

People have been confused for a long time.
They do not know that their own mind is the real Buddha.
They do not know that their own essence is the real Dharma.
    Wishing to seek Dharma, they attribute it to remote sages;
wishing to seek Buddhahood, they do not observe their own mind.

The Art of peace begins with you.
Work on yourself and your appointed
Task in the Art of peace.
Everyone has a spirit that can be refined,
A body that can be trained in some manner,
    A suitable path to follow.
You are here for no other purpose
Than to realize your inner divinity
    And manifest your innate enlightenment.
Foster peace in your own life
And then apply the Art to all that you encounter.

When there are clouds and fog everywhere, the world is dark, but that does not mean the sun has decomposed. Why is there no light? The light is never destroyed; it is just enshrouded by clouds and fog.

The pure mind of all living beings is like this, merely covered up by the dark clouds of obsession with objects, arbitrary thoughts, psychological afflictions, and view and opinions. If you can just keep the mind still so that errant thought does not arise, the reality of nirvana will naturally appear. This is how we know the inherent mind is originally pure.

"What do you mean by the true Buddha,
The true Dharma and the true Way?
Would you be good enough to explain to us?”

    The Master said,
    Buddha-
this is the cleanness and purity of the mind.
    Dharma-
this is the shining brightness of the mind.
    The Way–
this is the light that is never obstructed anywhere.

The three are in fact one.
    All are empty names and
    Have no true reality.
