...that you don't hear anymore.
My sister and I received the patented brown boot WW2 lecture from the (so called) greatest generation.

God when I was you age (By "God" - this from my atheist mother!) When I was your age times were tough, we shoveled __ tons of coal before breakfast every morning, walked uphill __ miles to school through a blinding snowstorm (even in June!) The wind always blew in your face, never at your back, and we walked uphill to school, and we walked uphill FROM school (They didn't have downhills in those days I guess) and you kids don't know what tough is!

Then the war came along, and we built the battleships with one arm, and we fought the war with the other AND WE WON!! and you kids don't know what tough is!

We didn't have food back in my days, we ate___7 days a week and was darn glad to find___ to eat, and you kids don't know what tough is!

Every time the story was told it was always a few more ton of coal and a few more miles to school. All this from a little woman who never shoveled coal, worked on a ship, or fought in a war. πŸ€”

OMG...I bought that 45 single with my lawnmower allowance when I was 14. Mary was a cutie back in the day.

I'm going to give you only one chance to answer this question truthfully.

My mother believed in independence and although being married herself, she didn't think marriage was a necessary formality. I believe, at least partly because of that I have never married.

That's the very last time we're going to cover for you when the police come round asking questions.

Yup. Mary Hopkin was a one-hit wonder for sure. She was "discovered" by one of the Beatles but I don't know which one. John??
