    Edit; at least you had a railway!!
    They didn't use the road one in our family. Something to do with baby sister and a motorcycle on the road outside the house, and the associated long hospital stay and convalescence. I mostly heard it from my friends' parents. We didn't live so close to the train.

    We didn't have the tooth fairy, or easter bunny, but we did have santa claus. Only 1 of him though, none in public places, and if you saw him when he visited he wouldn't leave you presents because naughty children got none. So we only saw pictures of him.

    Not really. We were postwar country kids, used to making our own amusements, toys, gifts for others. We weren't exposed to commercials or merchandising at all.
