In the UK, growing up, I liked M*A*S*H but BBC2 switched the laugh track off.
I remember, there was once an episode broadcast where they forgot to turn it off.
The BBC announcer apologized afterwards.

Of course Mash was right, but it is so politically incorrect today.

The BBC announcer apologized afterwards. It’s awful; especially the American canned laughter of that era.

Of course Mash was right, but it is so politically incorrect today. It was a comedy which was very funny and acceptable at that time period.
Even in todays world the man would have to dress in uniform.....lighten up some, you'll live a longer life!

Mash makes fun of cross dressing men as if it is a behavior worthy of a discharge based on a mental disorder. If you think the series made fun of Corporal Klinger then you rather missed the point.

thread as MASH. It wasn't funny and it did mock homosexuality.

Or did Klinger become a cross dresser to get a section 8?

I am talking about the nature of one politically incorrect character. No way would Mash be made today unless the Klinger character made drastic changes.

Or did Klinger become a cross dresser to get a section 8?The ambiguity was deliberate.
Either way I do not remember him being the butt of any jokes.
The on-going "joke" was that everyone treated him as
normal, as normal as people coming in with limbs
hanging off and their guts hanging out.
