@fmf saidI don’t believe atheists are intelligent. I was trying to be generous.
Your opinion, that the certainty of atheists regarding what they do not believe is somehow a function of how "intelligent" they are, has no bearing on how certain they actually are.
But most people realize their feelings may be wrong and that God cannot logically be disproven,

@divegeester saidPsalm 14:1
Is this another of your “facts”?
And if you don’t like that, I think Carl Sagan said to him, atheism was very stupid.

@fmf said<<The OP question is: Have any of the agnostics or atheists on this forum ever had their lack [or loss] of belief tested?>>
It's more a case of whether or not lack of belief is an interesting topic on a Spirituality Forum.
The OP question is: Have any of the agnostics or atheists on this forum ever had their lack [or loss] of belief tested?
No one has addressed this question, but that's OK. I have started many a thread that posed a question that didn't get any traction.
Maybe none of them have and saw no reason to address the OP

@fmf saidBecause in a desperate situation that they’re helpless to affect, they’ll realize they could be wrong and their concern and love for another human being will trump their vanity and “principled atheism.”
What is the point of someone praying to the Christian God when they do not believe in the Christian God ?

@divegeester saidI wouldn’t say that.
So your idea of intelligence isn’t “intelligence” as generally accepted?
Intelligent people realize their feelings may be wrong and that the existence of God cannot be disproven.
Atheists apparently believe one or both.
@pb1022 saidThere was no "vanity" in that hospital room. There was no lack of "concern" for my wife.
