Publicly speaking, I don't care how anyone "interprets" what my motive is for commending an individual's achievement.

If one wants to call it "a$$ licking" that's their prerogative. I could care less.

What I do care about is the lack of virtue on the part of the one that has such a pessimistic view of life that they should judge an individual as motivated by the need to kiss ass simply because that one would congratulate another for a good work.

Your opinion only.

Try demonstrating by reason and logic how it is inappropriate to congratulate the owner of an internet chess site for his/her achievement.

Explain how it is that I put words in anyone's mouth. You're the one that says it's "behind licking". Are you judging my motive?

There are communications by many people to many other people on this website of which you and I were totally unaware of yesterday. So don't assume with a long proboscis. Rather live and let live without straining to know what is none of your business. Some communications occur on a need to know basis.

But he doesn't need his behind licked.
Pitiful words with a crude slang inference from the mouth of a highly intelligent man.

Contacting him privately is easily done and no doubt some have. There is certainly a difference between conveying good wishes to someone and wanting to be seen to be conveying good wishes by others.

Then perhaps they should be in a PM rather than on public forum.πŸ˜‰

Your question to me was:
Why do you feel the need to make it a character flaw to say something polite to someone for doing a good thing?

I said no such thing. You misrepresented me.
It is akin to the age old "Have you stopped beating your wife?"

Words deserving pity is quite an odd notion.
And there is no inference to be taken from my post - it is explicitly clear.

(btw: I am intelligent but in no way "highly intelligent".)

You ask me a question.

I give you an answer.

And your response is "Your opinion only" πŸ™„

Whose opinion did you want? (You should have asked them)

Don't worry about it. Just leave that kind of stuff to me.

Then what do you mean by "behind licking"? Did you mean it in a good way, like it's a good thing to do?

No you didn't! You meant it in a derogatory way. In a way that's meant to belittle and malign the character of the one you said it about, and you did it without provocation.

I think you should correct your avatar.

It should read, 'Windbag's Scourge'. πŸ˜‰
