An idea for improving the “thumbs” feature

Russ, you may have noticed that there has been some debate about this feature and I would like to make a serious suggestion.

The what:
- make the thumbing of forum posts only available to subscribers

The why:
- clearly it is a feature which many members see value in and that value can be commercialised

The suggestion in my OP is nothing to do with removing anonymity. Have a read of it and get back to me with your usual rational, balanced thought-through comments.

The thumbing feature would become more valuable if it were for subscribers only.

As Russ has already noted elsewhere, it is being used by those with multiple accounts to troll various threads.

The plain fact is that this is "exactly" why you are against anonymity -- so you can go after them in the forum in your usual way. Trump wants nothing more than to punish his detractors... just like you.

This alone is why thumbs should remain anonymous.

In the last few weeks about 10000 people have made a move (or registered to the site and didn't move). How many of these are posting?
How many of these are concerned about thumbs?

By “bigger things” do mean on the scale of eliminating world hunger, stopping wars, curing pestilence, ensuring we aren’t destroyed by AI controlled terminators and maintaining freedom of constructive speech, or are you just trying to silence this topic again?

After all Ponderable, this is by far the longest running thread in the history of “site ideas”, so if that is the “bigger frame of things” you are referring to then I’d it’s pretty big.
