Murderer is not a profession.

Explain why "murderer" is a profession, as you state that it is one, and it is not one.

"A profession is a vocation founded upon specialised educational training, the purpose of which is to supply disinterested counsel and service to others, for a direct and definite compensation, wholly apart from expectation of other business gain." -pg 4

Cold blooded murder is a learned skill as well as a criminal activity. Killers aquire 'training' one way or another... on their own (Cain in his jealous rage, using his brother's sacrificial offering knife to slit his throat), in street gangs, drug cartels, large mafia business or illuminati type organizations, global terrorist cells, high security felon offense prisons, etc. Murderers render a service for their own or the direct benefit of some element of society or crusader cause (however dubious, unsavory, despicable or evil) with expectation of some imaginary or real psychic income or tangible compensation. Wondering how you might categorize murderers.

So you think that assassination is the same thing as regular murder?

If a guy gets paid to kill another guy, that's a profession because he profits from it.

If a guy goes home drunk and shoots his family, who benefits from that? You cannot say that he was compensated. You can say that he might be "intangibly compensated" (which you seem to believe), but nowhere in the definition of the word profession does it say anything about intangible or imaginary nonsense. In fact, in the definition you provided it states: "DIRECT AND DEFINITE COMPENSATION".

I'd love to see you speak to murder victim's families and tell them that murder is a profession.

All murderers are not professional killers.

Cain was acting as an individual, not as a professional hitman supplying "disinterested
counsel and service to others for a direct and definite compensation."

Hop, Tim, Andy... I recognize that friends may differ in their use of working

definitions within a conversation and do respect your varying points of view.

Similarly, I've no desire to change your minds or waste time splitting hairs.

I appreciate each of your contributions to this lively general forum thread.

Thanks.

You've created a thread asking what the world's oldest profession is and all the little forumites have been trying to guess the answer to your question...

but you don't even understand the definition of the word "profession" as you have clearly demonstrated here by labelling "murderer" as a profession.

This is not a "lively general forum thread", this is a complete and utter farce.

He'll probably say that 'mother' is the answer and then attempt to justify it in a similar way to 'murderer'.

Excellent question, Huck. Must think about your probe... and must tell you that I'm beginning to wonder if the time

honored common wisdom answer of 'prostitution' ever did qualify, by current definition, as the 'oldest profession'.

Not even close. Child bearing/procreation wasn't in the picture until outside the garden.

Inside... sexual intercourse was designed as a recreational expression of marital love.

you have no biblical proof of that, yours is an unsound theological premis
