@c-i-v saidNot sure why you keep linking what I am saying to the word liberal. There is a danger that debates on RHP always become linked to one of two American political camps for some reason. There are more than two philosophical outlooks in the world and so far as I am aware people who are successful dealing with negative behaviour are not particularly linked to any particular political persuasion.
@Relentless-Red
And when those methods don't work? What would you do?
Lets role play.
I'm the kid. You're the dad.
"Take your 3 strikes and count to three's and shove it dad!"
(At this point I take a a bowl of soup and throw it against the wall and laugh at you)
What would you do?
Kids today know they can't get hit so those pre-school methods only work on to ...[text shortened]... with kids of today while being limited by liberal parenting methods.
Count to 3? Lord have mercy 🙄
The approaches to which I refer can be used in 'tough love' models which I do not think are a part of one particular political philosophy. In fact one criticism often aimed at people who are too liberal is that they do not follow through with the consequences and so what they are saying has no teeth in the child's eyes.
The point of difference is that you don't react with the severe chastisement, whether words or physical. You remain measured and in control and you offer the child a way of putting things right to avoid the consequence being delivered. This only gets the best outcome over time if the child knows from experience that the consequence will consistently happen if they don't put it right, but it gives them a chance to redeem themselves and to practice doing something positive. It also gives them a chance to see an authority figure being measured and fair so they learn about that way of being.
To be honest you can see this measured style (you need to start getting it right now or there will be a consequence) being used well by experienced police and security who did not dive in like their naïve colleagues. In my experience these are not necessarily people with particularly liberal philosophies at all.
@eladar saidNever ever laid a hand on my wife but she has clattered me a few times, once she threw a guinness glass at me(lucky for me it was empty)
Have you seen The Quiet Man?
Here is a stick to beat the lovely lady.
@badradger saidSo no children? Reason asking this what appears to be a silly question. You said: "Never ever laid a hand on my wife", appear no intimacy there! 😉
