You probably didn't notice, but Syrian Islamists have been murdering, persecuting and setting fire to Druze homes in the last week. The Druze death toll seems to be at least 60, but maybe over 100, depending on who you ask.
I can hardly even cite it, since even if you now go and search for news stories, most of what you are going to see is that the Druze died in "clashes" and "sectarian violence."
An Al Jezeera headline, for example: "Over 30 killed in clashes in predominantly Druze Syrian city." https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/7/13/several-dead-in-clashes-in-predominantly-druze-syrian-city
What's really happening: The Druze villages are being attacked and any attackers killed are being killed in self-defense. Israel is stepping up to defend the Druze and at the same time, begging its Druze citizens to stop trying to cross over into Syria to rescue their family members on the Syrian side of the border.
https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/netanyahu-implores-israeli-druze-not-to-cross-into-syria-says-idf-will-aid-syrian-druze-under-attack/
It should be self-evident that the "sectarian violence" is not the Druze attacking anyone. They're a tiny peaceful minority in both Israel and Syria. The Syrians are simply using the anarchy as a cover/excuse to attack the Druze to kill/burn/loot them.
But, of course, as I would expect, nobody seems to give a damn. I generally keep CNN on in the background in the afternoon at work. Nothing yesterday on it that I noticed.
I wonder why.
@AThousandYoung saidI think what you meant was that there's no knee-jerk anti-capitalist, anti-colonialist obsession by ivory tower academics and left wing agitators that rushes in to condemn every act of the Islamists.
Because the Druze don't have the extensive influence in the USA media that Jews do. That's why we all had to hear about October 7 but the Druze are ignored.
@AThousandYoung saidYou're right.
I don't remember sh76 posting about when the Alawites were targeted...
https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2025/04/syria-coastal-massacres-of-alawite-civilians-must-be-investigated-as-war-crimes/
I don't post about most of the world's massacres, mainly because I don't even know about them because nobody gives a damn about them.
People only seems give a damn about non-white people dying when they can use it to attack the colonialist capitalist Jews (or other "elitist" groups, I suppose).
@sh76 saidSounds like somebody forgot about Kony 2012

@sh76 saidThe Druze are friends /allies of the Jews.

Friends of the Jews always face persecution, and even death.
Wait a minute… wasn’t the US applauding the downfall of Assad?
Anyhoo. Obviously I don’t know to which extent the news is reported in the US, but in Europe and the UK there are daily updates on the story.
As the lnks below demonstrate, from even before the Israeli airforce started bombing the Syrian army.

As to why there are no full blown discussiona on the matter?
Probably because people are still trying to figure out why there are clashes between the Bedouins and the Druze in the first place.
Before forming an opinon, most people want to know what the hell is going on.
And let’s be honest, this site isn’t the sort of place one poses questions in hope of a se sensible and educating reply.
@sh76 saidAccording to the BBC. the fighting started Sunday when "peaceful" Druze militias encircled and then seized a neighborhood in Suweida city inhabited by Bedouins.https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cgmwp70pwmyo

@sh76 saidAlso, according to CNN, the Druze have refused offers to integrate their forces into the national army insisting on keeping well-armed independent militias.https://www.cnn.com/2025/07/15/middleeast/israel-strikes-syria-sectarian-clashes-druze-intl

Our resident Minister for Israeli Propaganda neglected to mention such inconvenient facts when hyperbolically defending yet another Israeli bombing campaign as well as seizure of Syrian territory.
@AThousandYoung saidFirst I've ever heard of it.
Sounds like somebody forgot about Kony 2012
I didn't exactly lead CNN's bulletins or make above the fold on the realclearpolitics homepage.
@sh76 saidThat's because the US mainstream media doesn't value Ugandan lives. Apparently neither do you. You're only interested when you think it might help Israel.

The left wingers, however, took it very seriously. I was very much aware of it at the time.
