Freudian slip? I did not mention your profession. Why would that be on your mind, as I shine a light on your life of receiving support in one form or another, from your government?
So, when you suggest that I receive money for nothing, it makes me sound like a bank manager leech.
@shavixmir saidTell us then that you receive absolutely no money or benefit from the government. You will flummox your answer with words like tax , or bank manager leach, whatever that is,,,,,,I prefer the word parasite myself……or other elements of your socialism……Netherlands became a socialist country in the 1860s. And of course there are jobs, North Korea has jobs, so I don’t know what you mean by your having a job.
Because I do actually have a job.

I don’t think one can exist in N Lands without taking welfare. Am I wrong.?

For if I told you that, you would be able to know who I am.
Most people exist in the Netherlands without “welfare”. So yes, you are wrong.
The Netherlands most certainly is not a socialist country. We’ve had capitalists in charge, most of the time, since the 60’s.
Yes. There is welfare. There are taxes. And a couple of socialist measures are in place (although under attack: think unions, Health & safety regulations, etc. ).
Amsterdam is quite the tax haven for various businesses.
Hand outs to the extremely rich… oh yes, various large companies are tax exempt (or fall into lower brackets, because of… well… capitalism).
Compared to the US or UK, however, I presume you’d call the Netherlands progressive.

How proud of your parasitism you must be.
I'm a draftsman, ex welder.
You're a parasite sucking on the state tit, how does that taste when people are so reluctant to feed you the state has to make all kinds of threats against them. The people I deal with do so because it's mutually beneficial, we build stuff.

@kevcvs57 saidPseud Boy: "No it wasn’t. You’re babbling again. Everyone in the world comprehends the definitions I pasted of capitalism being capitalism.
The problem you have is your arguments lead to the conclusion that there is no such thing as a capitalist economy / state and that capitalism is simply something that occurs separate from the state / economy in which it operates.
It might be that pure unadulterated capitalism like pure unadulterated socialism has never and could never exist, perhaps both concepts can only exist in the real world as a chimera made up of each other to differing degrees.
Because you don’t like them, you suggest, it’s something else."
I hereby state that I agree with the definitions of capitalism posted by shagdoody, reposted here verbatim including his embarrassing 'hmmms' and 'ohhhs'. Pseud Boy said:
For example, a definition:
Capitalism is an economic system based on the private ownership of the means of production and their operation for profit.
Oh. Mhmmm. Yes.
Or:
Central characteristics of capitalism include capital accumulation, competitive markets, price system, private property, property rights recognition, voluntary exchange, and wage labor.
Mhmmm. Ohhhh. Yessss
The most obvious characteristic that is incompatible with the unemployment benefit is 'voluntary exchange' Where do the funds come from that are to be redistributed to the slothful and are they given voluntarily?
'wage labor' close except for the 'labor' part, lack of labor is a very big part of being unemployed.
'capital accumulation' The NZ goobermint takes half your working life under threat of force which seriously hinders one ability to accumulate capital. After they take half your working life they filter it through buratcracies each one taking a cut then some of it is used to pay people to do nothing. The more they invest in this venture the more people do nothing.
'price system' goobermint puts an artificial value on doing nothing (aka unemployment benefit) and an artificial value on labor with a minimum wage rate.
Nearly everything in shag doodys posted definition of capitalism is antithetical to the unemployment benefit.
So thank you shag doody for, after much arm twisting, finally posting your definitions of capitalism, I agree with what you posted. It seems fair that I now post the definition of socialism, and since I'm lazy or busy or something I'll post the very first hit.
"Definitions from Oxford Languages · Learn more
socialism
noun
A political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole."
Emphasis mine.

@shavixmir saidPseud boy, 'arms dealers' provide a service as do 'bank managers' and 'shareholders'.
As I said: unemployement benefits are a form of welfare. Is giving money to people who do nothing. And is capitalism.
I also gave many other examples: share holders, bank managers, arms dealers, chief justices… capitalism hands out a great deal of money to unproductive people.
Just because you're unproductive doesn't mean everyone else is too, who would you live off if that were the case.
@wajoma saidMothers provide a service as well.

You don’t seem quite so eagre to pay them for the service of raising the future.
Indeed, you are very selective as to what constitutes a service.

When a woman chooses to have a child her thoughts aren't what a great ant the baby will make in the socialist ant farm. Every mother/child relationship is different but core to that is the reward of being a mother for the sake of motherhood not how much money she can get for it from unwillng citizens through the force of the state.
@shavixmir
No one asked you what your job is. No need to get emotional, why is that with libs? The gist of your post is that Netherlands economy is no diff than the USA? You might want to google Socialism Netherlands . You are quite disingenuous.
So.....are we to surmise that you DO receive payments/andor benefits from your government? Since you did not answer that question...................

Blah blah blah.
@shavixmir saidWe’ll ck you off as losing another argument. Do you know, from what I gather up on the Internet you folks pay flat tax to cover all of the Socialism. In this country we get to literally decide how much tax we pay. I call that freedom. I have tax free, municipal bonds, for instance, which spin off money to me to live on. I do not pay tax on that money….So, where one man pays say 30% on his hundred thousand dollars, I might pay 15% on my 100k income from the bonds and other sources.
Weapons manufacturers aren’t manufacturing as a service to you.
Blah blah blah.
We all learned that trick from Warren Buffett, who y’all are upset about all the time, but he is just having use of a wonderful capitalistic system. If he lived where you do, you would eat him alive.
@averagejoe1 saidWarren Buffett is in favor of minimum tax rates for wealthy people like himself. He's said repeatedly how insane it is that he paid the lowest tax rate in his office, including his secretary
