@Ghost-of-a-Duke saidCan you prove this is a fact and not opinion? Ghost you know as well as I do it's pure opinion. Which I respect. But completely disagree with. What is not good for you may be great for me. As I said it's different for everyone. Fred had a dynasty but I know he did not put those kind of hours in because he did not have to.
That sounds like a much healthier approach.
Effort should of course be put into running a clan, but it shouldn't be akin to a full time job. (Unpaid at that).
Edit: Not Stees!!!! 😲
I did not know about going on at night and how it can mess up my sleep cycle so thank you for that I am grateful for that news. I never knew that. I keep saying I won't do it anymore and yet I keep doing it. I will make sure to adjust when I am on and hopefully my sleep will be better. Sincerely, I thank you for that. Not sleeping is brutal.

@Michael-Martin saidYou have a tendency sir to challenge people when they speak of facts, saying it is just their opinion, and yet on a number of occasions have described your own arguments as factual. For example in another thread you wrote:

"You are all entitled to your opinion, I have no issues with it. The FACT is it's legal, within the rules, and it's a logical thing to do when your opponent is holding up a challenge on purpose so you can't close it off to get the points and start another match."
And you didn't just (incorrectly) set yours comments up as facts, you capitalized it! - How about some consistency?
@Ghost-of-a-Duke saidWow.... That is the first time you have typed something that made absolutely no sense at all. I mean none. Not sure you understand, please allow me to help you my friend. Almost everything in every forum that is posted is all opinion. Even what I'm typing now is opinion. You had no facts just searched out comments out of context and for the first time it made absolutely no sense at all.

Many people say "facts", or say this is "true" but it does not make it so. If I am typing about myself then you are getting facts. Because it's my life we are talking about.
Everything else??? It's all opinion my friend. You stating what is right or wrong for what ever reason, is always pure opinion. At times you may get some facts sure. But almost all the time for everyone, it's opinion.
That is all I really have to say about that. You are like a human dictionary and love words. I remember telling you years ago that you were brilliant in the way you speak. But then again, that is just my opinion. 🙂
All my best my friend. Lets get back to talking about setting up a co captain for teams and do some good.
Michael 🙂

You Sir, have a tendency to call things FACTS when they are indeed not FACTS! Why not become a Clan Leader or Co-Clan Leader yourself and see what is involved in doing it. You are talking the talk but don't see you walking the walk...
Don't get me wrong everyone is entitled to an opinion. Michael and myself are of the opinion and I think you are too, if someone is holding up a challenges to stop a Clan from making another challenge it is perfectly legal by the Site rules to resign that game, in fact one can resign a game if they no longer believe it is winnable. It is also showing respect for your opponent.
You could very easily be a Clan Leader or a Co-Clan Leader, obviously you do have interest in the Clan System, so why not become a bigger part of it my chess friend and mentor. I believe you could help your Clan out significantly if you so desired.

Problem solved.
@Very-Rusty saidYou consistently misrepresent the issue about resigning games to bring a challenge to an end.

The criticism was never about resigning games where a particular player/clan was deliberately holding up the challenge. (That is something separate). The criticism was about resigning games simply because the clan challenge was technically already decided.
Some players, myself included, think it is disrespectful to dump such games that are themselves undecided, even if the challenge is already won or lost.
This is where speed is to the detriment of chess and the enjoyment of chess.

May I ask you what your interest is in the Clan Challenges? Do you follow that closely that you know a Clan Challenge has been closed just for the sake of closing it??? Indeed, a challenge can be closed at anytime. You do understand only 3 challenges are permitted at a time against any Clan. Do you realize there are clans that will not play each other? If you were to become a Clan Leader Or a Co-Clan Leader which I believe you would be great at, you would see all the real issues that arise in the Clan Challenges, my chess friend.
I have only seen it done when players are holding up a Clan Challenge so another cannot be started. Again I reiterate why not become involved in the Clan System in a bigger way by becoming a Clan Leader or a Co-Clan Leader, which is what we should be discussing in the conversation, along with the other things being discussed.
Who are we to say if when a person resigns they don't believe their game is lost? Of course being a strong player yourself you may see it where someone not as strong as you like myself as an example may not see it. We all have different levels of understanding of the game. You found that out in helping mentor me in your Club, which was most appreciated. We get far more done working together than against each other.

To lead a clan here should be primarily a fun thing to do. Yes, effort should be required to be successful/competitive, but it shouldn't involve 40 hours a week to have a chance of ultimate success.
When a championship is effectively already decided in the first couple of months, where is the incentive for others to put in a reasonable amount of effort?
@Ghost-of-a-Duke saidSo you can only play 3 concurrent Challenges with one Club??? If not then you wouldn't know the Challenges involved.

I thought you had told me you helped to run a site, not that you actually ran the Site. May I ask what Site that might be?
Michael told you when he first started he had to spend 40 hours a week, now it is rare that he has to spend that amount of time as all he has to do now is learn the strength of the new players. There is a lot of work to it if you want to be an actual contender, my chess friend.
Kindest Regards,
As Always,

@Very-Rusty saidWe've had this conversation before and I PM'd you the name of the site. - I am one of the site admin. I am not the webmaster or owner of the site. (But I did run a film league and a Sitcom league).

@Ghost-of-a-Duke saidI really don't know what that has to do with running a club, you never did answer if you were only able to play 3 concurrent games with the same Club. Sorry I don't remember the name of it, if you would care to share again, I will go look at it. I belong to 3 chess sites now. Perhaps you never did give me the address of the site you said you are a Site Admin. I suggest by P.M. if you would be so kind.

Running 2 leagues is far more labour intensive than running a single clan. I can assure you of that. (Never again).
@Ghost-of-a-Duke saidI find it very strange if it is that difficult you have all the time on your hands to post in here. 😏 Lucky for the Site that you are not the Webmaster!!!

Running the leagues there is historic. - I no longer do so. (As already explained).

That does explain much to me. How do you manage to run a Club when you are seldom there? It must be just a fun thing you do to past the time?
Which would mean you have no idea of what the clan leaders have to do on this site to be a contender, much work is put into it. Some just can't be bothered to put the time and effort into it or simply don't have the time, that I could understand. I have much more time since I retired than when I was semi-retired for sure.
