@Ghost-of-a-Duke saidGhost,
Why are you against new ideas to improve the clan system?
I simply don't believe it will improve the Clan System. What it will do is help Clans that don't want to put the work and effort it takes to win a Clan Championship. They want to play fewer Challenges and win something for doing little. That is what I don't agree with. I am always for improving the system.
We already got an OK from Russ to go ahead with a Co-Clan leader if enough people wanted it. If the Clan Leader feels it is too much for him as not everyone is as dedicated as Michael is to make challenges, or simply may not have the time, then they could have a Co-Clan Leader to help her or him out with the Clan.
As I have said before it is a lot of hard work for one Clan Leader to handle, some people just don't have the time. This is where a Co-Clan Leader would come in very valuable.
People like Trevor and Bish making new Clans is something I certainly approve of getting more involved in playing. Not making New Rules to suit a few Clans!!! Changing rules to suit themselves I don't agree with.

@Very-Rusty saidQuality over quantity is preferable in most things. A healthy discussion about how things can be improved for all clans is something I welcome.

A clan leader should not be required to put in 40 hours a week (as Michael has said he does) to be competitive. I would like to see 30 clans having a fair shot at winning the championship, as opposed to a small handful. This would be better for the clan system and the site as a whole.
@Ghost-of-a-Duke saidImplementing a Co-Clan Leader would solve that issue and all the work wouldn't fall upon one person's shoulders.

I don't know that you will ever see 30 Clans having a shot at winning a Championship because the interest is not there. They just want to play a few Challenges a year and win something. That is not earning it, it is having it given to you for doing very little for it.
I still say if the smaller clans amalgamated making larger clans that would certainly improve the quality of play. It is called WORK!!! This would increase the amount of clans in the running if they wanted to put the work into it. You can WORK and still have FUN!! 😉

Just so we are all on the same page here - so far the 2nd - 4th place clans in the
2025 Net Points this year - most
table have played 266, 274 and 274 games. We are 1/3 of the way through March.
My Cup proposal was for everyone competing in the cup to play 1200 games.
Those top clans - including the clan that some say has the best leader - are on that exact schedule.
If anyone says, "They want to play fewer Challenges and win something for doing little." its not true. 1200 games in a year. 100 games a month is not doing little.
It's a goal that a lot of clans can reach with a co-leader or maybe combining smaller clans, as some have suggested.
Development time is a zero-sum game. If you like this idea and think your clan might participate in 2026 - please tell @Russ.
@Ghost-of-a-Duke wish i had 40 hours a week to put into it but hey work gets in way, maybe i need to hand the clan over to someone like Stees
😉 , i put maybe 3 hours a week at most, so don't expect my guys to get anywhere near first place if 40 hours is required!
@Wycombe-Al saidThat sounds like a much healthier approach.

Effort should of course be put into running a clan, but it shouldn't be akin to a full time job. (Unpaid at that).
Edit: Not Stees!!!! 😲
@Wycombe-Al said40 hours a week was needed in my early years or lets say the first seven to eight years. Now it will go back and forth depending on what is going on in the tables.

Some weeks I only put ten hours in. But most of the time it's never less then 25 hours, and I still put 40 hours.
But Al, you and everyone else, most likely never need to put that much time in. You all have been here for a long time, knowing the players, so many probably don't need to put the time in I do. I do it so I make sure I am doing everything I can to improve year to year, and as new players come in I have to learn about them to. New clans, I need to learn about them as well.
It's always a learning process for me, so I keep putting time in. I have been working as a caregiver / nursing, and I put my 10 to 12 hours in a day. I just spend all my free time on this site. I also have insomnia. So I am up and don't sleep much. That also gives me more time.
It's a matter of how important it is to you as well. To me, I have fun doing it so it's high on my list of things to do in my free time. I don't sit around all day day dreaming and then come onto the site.
It still comes down to if people want to win, you need to put the time in. How much time depends on each person as an individual.
All my best to you and everyone else.
Michael
@Bish saidThe problem with the clan system is that no one wants to join clans anymore. I don’t know if it’s because they don’t like someone setting up their games or seeing that clans with only a few people don’t have a chance and it’s pointless competition?

@mike69 saidHi Mike! Those are all good reasons and true. I built mine month by month and year by year, changing things yearly. I did it by just sending out Personal messages to the players that fit the rating I needed, and I got them from the tables. Its the icon up top in the black area towards the right. It just says "Tables". It gives everyone on this site. You can start at the highest rating or change it to the lowest rating and just work your way up. As you see players that fit the rating you want, and if they seem to be a good fit for you, then you take them.

It's how I did most of my recruiting in the early years. But I also found players on other clans that mentioned they were looking to be on more than one clan, or you can just ask them. Might be a good idea to ask the leader before you ask their player.
But don't be afraid to message players and ask them. You will get no replies, you will get no thank you, but you will get "sure sounds fun" and then you take him or her. That is how you can start.
It's work Mike. I won't lie. And a lot of typing. lol But you can easily build on that team. You have really talented players on your team. It's a great start.
Hope this helps???

@Michael-Martin saidHi Michael, A couple years ago I went through this list and messaged what felt like everyone on it that was a member, getting only two players and a few jokers we’ve talked about. To truly complete and have chance a clan needs the same number of players as you and Metallica or at least very close to the 20 and it’s just not possible. The full clans have been that way for a long time and being point leaders it’s easier to grab a player here and there when needed. The top few leaders will stay that way until the clan system dies out totally. The site would have to do something to save it through incentives like possibly a little cheaper membership rate if you join and stay in a clan???

@mike69 saidIt would take time, but if you work on it, I believe you can build the same size clan as any of us. You can even ask some leaders if they know of anyone, leaders, some of them will help including myself. As I go along I can give you names and you can message them. At least a few anyway. But you can build that kind of clan, I believe of all people, you can certainly do it.

@Michael-Martin saidIt’s just not the same as it was the first time I was clan leader years back, this is why we’re down to only a few active clans now. If you had to start a new clan under a different name where no one knew you, you would see and feel the pain of how far the clan system has truly diminished with no interest.

Insomnia is a horrible thing, but would advise against going online in the early hours. Screens emit blue light, which can suppress the production of melatonin and mess up your sleep cycle.

The facts are that some Clan Leaders are lazy, some don't have the time, and some just don't care. I don't want to see a two tier Championship, I don't know that I would remain in the Clans which may make many of you happy.
I already have stated I don't know how many times Put the smaller clans together to make a bigger clan who can actually compete. The more players in a Clan the more chances of winning as you can play many more games.
Why make two sets of rules one for the Clans who want to work at it and one for the others who rather play less and win something for doing very little?
This is where the Co-Clan Leaders which Russ has agreed to would come in handy and all the work wouldn't be stuck on one person, have it so the Co-Clan Leader can also make challenges. It is difficult because of the different time zones, this is where the Co-Clan Leader would come in very valuable. Of course the Clan Leader and Co-Clan Leader would have to be on the same page. It really does work!!!! Breaking Bad have already proved it. Metallica Did for Years with only One Clan Leader, but he was exceptional and had a great bunch of players who were dedicated.
