Your opponent clearly had never played the KGA before but he will get better.

White generally does a little bit better statistically than black. According to a previous Gatecrasher forum post, all things being equal [in a game of chess]: white should trump black 54% of the time. I suppose that percentage (54 percent) is approximately true when regarding the entire KG accepted opening system (C33-C39). Of course there are lines in which white does better statistically and lines where black does better statistically. Generally, I believe white performs very well statistically in gambit lines - (for example, in the Halloween Gambit (which is unsound) in which white sacrifices a knight - white has won a significant percentage of games - at least 50%. White performs very well statistically with the Danish Gambit too, which can be refuted.)

I would suspect if you plugged the opening position into an engine (1 e4 e5 2 f4 exf), the engine would initially evaluate Black's position as being slightly better because engines are highly materialistic and would probably think Black is better because Black has an extra pawn, and has the resources to defend it (at least temporarily!). Is Black better? No - the King's Gambit has been played possibly more times than any other opening in chess and I'm sure it has been analyzed to death, and white's position is fine.

Uh oh, looks like Chris forgot (somehow, didn't know it was possible) to make it unrated.

Not good news when half my games are clearly lost from the start.

Better get someone to change this.

For everybody in this tournament, that apparently doesn't play the KG, here's a helpful hint.

3.d4 is bad

3.Ne2 is worse

Thank you.

Not very long ago before I started playing the K G and when I could not be bothered to read my book by Korchnoi, in only the 6th game I started on this site and my 1st KGA I played d4

Game 2147039

and won!!! 😀😀😀😀

I haven't tried to win with Ne2 yet but I might just give it a try.

2 games with 3. Ne2.

Wins both (OK not yet both are on going but almost there).

Don't worry about commenting as in both games I am tutoring my opponents and discussions of these 2 games will do no harm.

Game 2407195
Game 2407220

The second game was played correctly by white until 6. Nxe4. 6. BXg3 would have maintained an advantage (I agree) but the point is Ne2 does not have to lose.

P.S. I know you will say there is a 400 point rating difference but you all know I can't win with Ne2 against a player rated 1800. I left an open invite for games against opponents up to 1400 with tuition offered.
