@pianoman1 saidI'm an atheist with lots of doubts.
No, BUT theists, in my experience, are full of doubt and need to go through this process of self-affirmation to boost their self confidence. Atheists have no doubts.

@fmf saidI don't think I have any confirmation biases.
In matters relating to the spiritual and/or religious beliefs ~ or the absence of such beliefs ~ what steps do posters here actively take to avoid or counteract confirmation bias, if any?
If I'm wrong please enlighten me. Can you provide an example.

@fmf saidWould be much more appropriate to ask this question of evolutionists.

Did the Cambrian explosion cause them to doubt the theory of evolution?
No, they simply declared evolution “speeded up!”
Did the lack of pre-Cambrian fossils deter them?
No, soft tissues!
Did the lack of transitional fossils deter them?
No, it’s rare to find fossils of any kind!
Did the complexity of the cell and DNA cause them to even *slightly* doubt the theory of evolution?
Heck no! Millions of years!
@avalanchethecat saidYes, that was a poor statement of mine that atheists have no doubts. Of course they do; it would be crass to assert otherwise. As an atheist myself I agree with Richard Dawkins whose atheism is beyond ‘reasonable’ doubt.
I'm an atheist with lots of doubts.

Take it to Science, Spanky.
@josephw saidI have no idea whether you are "wrong" and I am not interested in ascertaining whether you are or not. The OP is an invitation to reflect on what steps you take to avoid confirmation bias.

@fmf saidEspecially to those so bereft of original ideas that their "go-to" response when faced with a superior argument is the tired, old "that word doesn't mean what you think it means".
Confirmation bias is tapped into in all parts of the public domain, whether it be politics, left and right, or religion, atheism and theism, or anything else that involves people assuming postures and subscribing to ideas.

@divegeester saidYour bias is showing.
How is the OP nonsensical?
It’s a well formatted question, on forum topic and deserving of some thought.
