I was PM’d a few games by other lads and having looked at the games and the names
I am 80/20 convinced an engine is ticking over in their games.

But the more I think about it and having just read the rantings, the figures, the
claims and counter claims on this thread. I’ve come to ...[text shortened]... onfly states 1/3 to 2/3 of the top players are suspected engine users.

What is a top player?
1. You know where to put and what to do with your advice greenpawn. Let's be clear on that. Cheating is a problem here, even you have admitted yourself that you only play blitz because you don't want to play an engine user. Your ruminations are rather idiotic and pointless.

2. If you had been paying attention you would know that several have made the statement that at least 1/3 of the top players here are suspected engine cheats, and that would include the first three pages or approx 100 players.

That is correct, for reasons i have previously outlined in this thread.

1/3 of the top 100? So 30-35 players. That's not a lot compared to the vast number of users on this site. I think this is a big problem if you want to give the impression the site is overrun with cheats. 35 is hardly overrun.

To be honest, I think the real problem is not the number of cheats but the constant paranoia about cheats. Fortunately I have a solution to that problem. I have reduced my gameload considerably and now play more on a site where there are discusions about matters other than cheats and cheating.

False dichotomy. If 1/3 of the top rated player here are suspected engine cheats, then this is a very big problem. And this site could be absolutely overrun with engine cheats, whom only cheat in tournaments or only to get an edge in a game. Again think yahoo chess. You are promoting the same misconception that engine cheats somehow magically disappear below a certain threshold, that idea in and of itself doesn't hold water.

I was just using your figures. If you have a bigger number in mind then spit it out. I asked you once before how many cheats would be needed for the site to count as overrun but you evaded the issue. If the number is 35 then the site is not overrun and I don't have a problem with cheats. My own experience suggests the number should be larger than 35 but the number of cheats I have actually come into contact with does not suggest the site is overrun. So put a limit on it. What would be the minimum number of cheats (remembering there are almost 20 000 players here) for the site to be overrun?

Yeah I read that.
I was wee bit surprised I thought you might have come
back with a game or two.

Was looking forward to seeing what you might send.
Then when I came back to this thread after not reading it
for a day (I have a life outside RHP). I was amazed to see
what had happened.

What were they guys talking about when they were going about
the size of their computers and quad core and cache's?
Whoosh! right over my head.

I suppose that was my fault for asking them to look at a Morphy game.

Last time I looked they were putting Hans Berliner games into
their engines to see if he cheated...

(He's on the grassy knoll boys...)

And all the kicking and fighting - I left you all alone for one day
and I come back to this.
Not nice.

Anyway as I said, I'm playing chess on here now and will not
get bothered by engines, use them if you want.
The games are free (I want to subscribe but I do not want to
use my Credit card on the net and if I go by cheque it's £30).

If they want to clock up their electricity bill to beat me then let them.
The moral victory is mine and they will know that.

And anyway - who cares - it's only a game.

When for example you make the statement that 'X players out of Y are cheats' you are making the erroneous and false assumption that there are no other engine cheats in the total user population.

i don't have a chess engine, therefore there is no way i could analyze games. This seems to be a wee bit beyond your comprehension skills.

No one was looking at Berliner games to see if he cheated; one user was analyzing Berliner games to see what the match ups of perhaps the greatest correspondence chess player was. It's lower than quite a few players here.

Congrats on your surrender to engine cheats.

yeah. that's not the way I'd like rhp to be. the cheats must be dealt with.
"You do get to play against some high class engines...."

I'll play you - I'm good, have set up an open invite in your
name - you have white. Good luck

I was only joshing about Berliner.

"Congrats on your surrender to engine cheats."

It cannot be stopped. It's impossible.

You will catch the fools who have their engines on all the time.
The combo - cheats. How?

Ignore it. Forget it. I have.

Every time I open an invite in your name.

WORMWOOD ONLY - some other guy jumps in.

Have tried to email a challenge but you are only playing over 1800.

Understand getting beat by a lowly 1200 will bring your grade
so play un-rated if you want. You need to challenge me.
You take White - good luck

Korck wants to kick my butt in the blitz room.
(I bet he posts his good wins...here goes).
