Does anyone know if using a chess clock app is ok to use at a tournament?

Buying an expensive clock for one event seems rather ridiculous 😒

Ya but if both players are using the clock app on one phone I seriously doubt one of them would pick up the phone to use assistance.

    I don't see the problem.

Two people sit at the board and use a chess clock app so we don't have to waste 100 bucks for a clock.

I'd rather die than cheat and I don't leave the board, ever, so I think it's ok to use the clock app.

"... we don't have to waste 100 bucks for a clock."

I have seen digital clocks on E-Bay for £10.00 which is about $12.00.
I think a mobile might be a bit too finicky to use in a time scramble.

Hang about a tournament and wait till you hear someone who has just lost say they
are given up chess. (a very common occurrence) Offer to buy their clock for $5.00.

I think the tournament arbiters are smarter than that.

I was at a county game recently and one of the teams had forgotten to bring clocks so the captains decided that if both players were happy to use an App they could.
