I've finished the first three books (out of five total) of "The Empyrean" series by Rebecca Yarros.
Fourth Wing, Iron Flame and Onyx Storm. My first foray into the Romance Fantasy genre ("Romantasy" ), and I found it engaging and well-written A female protagonist made the series rather personal for me and brought home the story. I kept finding her reacting to the story events just like I wanted to. Extraordinarily believable, for a work of fiction.
Granted, I listened to the audiobooks from Audible instead of reading the actual books, but I'll be buying the hard copies to read just before I take up Book Four (and hopefully Five soon after).
Because now I hear Book Four won't be out until 2027. Bah!
@Torunn saidIt depends on the reader, for sure.
I will have to get used to audio-books - they are not the same as written words. Maybe some of them are better suited listening to than others?
But it is like reading the book, the narrator is just reading the actual book. Some have more talent than others, of course, and some have better voices for the material than others.
A new twist is that some audiobooks now sound like the old-time radio plays, extra voices and everything. I don't like those nearly as much as the ones that have one reader reading everything.
I had a teacher in elementary school who read to us every day. When I was younger, my mom read to me a lot. So I guess I'm used to that.
(My dad would read to me on occasion... he chose the books. He liked Tom Clancy.)
@Suzianne saidI seem to need more time with some writers, they need getting used to. I can look back to an earlier sentence or paragraph just for a second to catch up with the story, but it's all about learning new things. I may get there. 🙂

@Torunn saidAudiobooks have VCR-like controls where you can rewind, fastforward, pause, etc.

But I know what you mean, sometimes I have to go over some passages until I get it, especially if I'm the slightest bit tired. Might have something to do with the way a particular author turns a phrase.
