My neighbour had workmen rip up the road on the south side of my house without having OK'd it with the elected neighbourhood chief (or at least informing him) in order to replace loose and noisy paving stones. When the work was finished, the new paving soon collapsed into cavities in the insufficiently compacted soil beneath. The neighbour went on to come last in a local election. All politics is local politics, they say.
