Antonio Lobo Atunes

well-known (at least in Europe) Portugese author.

I would suggest "Ein Handbuch für Inquisitoren" (orig. O manual dos inquisidores) as a good read to see how Atunes thought deeply about the Salazar-time.

On the same subject, the Italian writer Antonio Tabucchi's (24 September 1943 – 25 March 2012) "Pereira Maintains" and "The Missing Head of Damasceno Monteiro" are an important statement on the Portuguese regime.

Ian Huntley, 52. Good riddance.

Alexander Butterfield, 99.

A man who changed the course of history. But for this man, Nixon would have stayed in office.

one dubious upside to have lived thru the birth of rock n roll is that memory is not absolute and morphs and evolves to fit our dubious narratives

i do it nigh on daily

lemme tell you a story about a zz top concert, several bottles of tequila, and a brand new guitar pick emblazoned with "HAVE MERCY BILLY G" that i keep in a kitchen junk drawer

i'm reasonably certain it happened
