I remember standing in line for 2 hours waiting to see the 1st Star Wars movie back in the 70's. After nearly 50 years and countless spin off's, it's still going. Part of me is awestruck by its success, and part of me wonders why filmmakers of today can't seem to produce something that can successfully compete with it.
@spruce112358said Do we need more socialism worldwide, especially in tourist destinations?
“The unity of citizens is very important,” Esquerra affirms. “Power lies with the people and we are the ones who decide what we want for our cities and destinations. Who is "We"?? Here's a novel idea: Why don't you let the people in other countries decide what type of government they want. 😳
@divegeestersaid Today marks 50 years to the day since ABBA won the (now risibly pathetic) Eurovision Song Contest with ‘Waterloo’ at the Brighton Dome (UK)
From the days when live music was actually live. What a brilliant team of Swedish song writers and performers.
This is an article by one of our most respected conservatives. He did
a bit of homework, and highlighted Biden activities which give us pause.
And, we don't even know who they are....scary stuff.
They're everywhere Joe. Behind every bush, around every dark corner, in the corridors of our universities, in the bookstacks of our libraries, and in the secret meetings of our government - and they're coming to get you!! 😆 😆 😆
The American economy added over 300,000 jobs last month, beating estimates by over 100,000 jobs. Meanwhile, over on planet X where the right wing lives, they're working overtime trying to convince everyone that will listen the American economy is falling off a cliff. 😏
@fartacussaid Support the Lichess stream. 💪 Although I watch just about everything about chess on YouTube and I follow all of the drama ...so I encourage everyone to explore all of the fun chess stuff going on. Even this website that we play on!

I absolutely hate him.
I absolutely hate him.
Why? He won the world title, defended his title a few times, and is now living the life he wants. This man has nothing left to prove and has more than "enough respect for the game" to conduct himself in a friendly, but professional way in the competitive format of his choosing. Many chess players would happily trade places with him. So, what's the problem?
P.S. I read your profile and played thru a couple of your games, and DO NOT think you'd be terrible even if you took more time to think. 🙂
@spruce112358said One of the things government must do is regulate the public areas. It is possible for government to do this well. One of the crowning achievements in the US was the Endangered Species Act of 1973 (signed by a Republican - Nixon) which has saved many iconic species like the whooping crane, the bald eagle, and the red-cockaded woodpecker.

I agree, though Nixon wasn't very popular, he had some notable achievements. Could you see today's MAGA crowd backing an Endangered Species Act? - - NOT!
Donald Trump’s Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), the parent company behind his Truth Social network that made its Wall Street debut last week, had to be kept afloat in 2022 through a series of emergency loans provided, in part, by a Russian-American businessman under scrutiny as part of a federal investigation into insider trading,
The Republican presidential contender’s social media platform was taken public last Thursday after TMTG merged with Digital World Acquisition Corporation and enjoyed a remarkable debut on the Nasdaq exchange with shares trading at a high of $78.
They plunged days later, however, as the company’s extraordinary 2023 losses came to light – leading some to warn that it is the latest example of a volatile “meme stock” offering that has little underlying value.
The broadsheet cites leaked documents linking the trust to the Russian-American businessman Anton Postolnikov, co-owner of Paxum Bank and the subject of a criminal investigation by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security over his role in the TMTG merger.
Paxum Bank does not have a banking licence in the US and is not regulated by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, which is a concern, the newspaper argues, because that would indicate the ES Family Trust had been used by Mr Postolnikov “to loan money to help save Trump Media – and the Truth Social platform – because his bank itself could not furnish the loan”.

This would seem to be true. i.e. The canon of Scripture is the collection of books that are considered the authoritative word of God. The word canon comes from the Greek word kanon, meaning reed or measurement, and implies a standard of quality.
@the-griftersaid the russians lost 25 million in world war 2.
so you crying lefties scream about 7 who died in a war by accident.
really ?
what if the Germans had killed 8 Russians on the way to Moscow ?
would you have not continued the war against the Germans ?
of course not.
death is part of war, military and civilian. Napoleon taught us that !
so you crying lefties scream about 7 who died in a war by accident.
Hey skippy, there is a bit more to this situation than 7 dead food workers. There is also the matter of the state of Israel deliberately blocking food and medical supplies donated by people around the world in route to starving children and their mothers who had nothing to do with this war, and only want to survive. Please explain to us how starving thousands of these kids and their mothers to death is going to make Israel more secure or will help in getting the remaining Israeli hostages released.
