Phill 3000 is right this time, Mexico is a sleeper, they will surprise everyone with the improvement of young phenomenons Dos Santos and possibly Vela, along with strong veterans and strong goalkeeper. People saw the old record reflecting on Mexico but forget the dramatic turnaround under the current coach. They may crack the top 8 this year!
Honduras is almost certainly out in the first round.

I like France and Uruguay in Group A 😀
Mexico can and will defeat Uruguay, despite the danger they present. If so, Uruguay would have to defeat somebody that Mexico loses to. France Mexico for sure.

Sound picks on the first round, it's interesting to go beyond but it is so unlike that an entire tournament could be closely-enough predicted for it to be worth my time to write my own. Your predictions are strong and interesting though.

"Henry handball ref Hansson selected for World Cup"

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/world-cup/story/_/id/737262/ce/uk/?cc=5901&ver=us

Why doesn't he decline the offer and go into hiding for a couple years?

because we would find him. what's the fun on hunting someone down when we'll know where they're going to be during the world cup? that's no fun at all.

seriously, the linesman had a better view of it so if anyone gets the blame for missing it he does. i actually remember the ref having a pretty decent game other than... looking at past major tournaments if we're banning any ref from the world cup he should be english.

I don't know that Maradonna is a bad enough coach to completely nullify Messi's skill. However, it's ultra competitive out there, so Argentina won't make it past Round 2!!!

Your predictions for who will emerge from the groups are pretty sound. However, your predictions for round 8 are way off.

There is no way that America would beat Germany.
I doubt Ghana would beat England.
Italy would never lose to Cameroon.

I agree that he's going on on a limb with any 2 of the three but for the home court advantage for African teams, but even then to get those three results approaches fanciful ideas about how much the home crowd and referrees will affect a game against such sound footballing nations as Germany, Italy, and the emerging US power. I think we'll see a relatively weak result by the African nations such as would still allow some credibility to FIFA officiating. We're not talking third-world home court advantage alone, we're talking desperately poor near-failed-states here compared to the greatest soccer powers in the world. My bet's on a weak display of the home-court advantage for WC2010.
