You are very selective when it comes to the figurative, hey?
I never really thought about it one way or the other, to be honest with you. I think some verses are obviously figurative or symbolic, but I tend much more toward the literal.

I think most of Genesis is 'obviously figurative or symbolic.'

It is a literal understanding of Adam and Eve, for example, that makes you unnaturally suspicious of scientific advancement and holds you prisoner to an archaic belief structure.

No, the reason I don’t believe the theory of evolution is because of the lack of evidence for it.

I didn’t believe the theory of evolution long before I read the Holy Bible and became a Christian.

Genesis has nothing to do with my disbelief in the theory of evolution.

I think it is historical, but nothing about that, in my opinion, detracts from science; it gives a reason why we can do science. An understandable universe that makes sense to us through reason I can get to from a designer God. At the same time, a mindless process producing life, a mindless process producing our brains, leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion on if we can trust our thought processes.

“An understandable universe that makes sense to us through reason”

??

“while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib.”

Really?

“I will make your pains in childbearing very severe;
with painful labor you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you.”

Seriously? What a pleasant being your God is!

“Altogether, Methuselah lived a total of 969 years, and then he died.”

Not very reasonable….

God, who spoke the universe into being, holds it together by the power of His Word is quite capable of doing things we would usually think not possible. What we normally think possible is simply the normal processes in place; if people still lived to be hundreds of years old, that too would be normal. A supernatural event caused by someone who can create the universe by speaking is proof our exposure to what is expected can be altered by the one who established it all.

Do you believe that a mindless process could build life with all of its specialized processes and error checking and find that reasonable?

This is what you are trying to hide. You believe that the universe is 6,000 yrs old, and the bible says no such thing. The topic of this thread is to use the scripture to support your belief.

Quote the scripture that says
God, who spoke the universe into being, holds it together by the power of His Word is quite capable of doing things we would usually think not possible.

What part of this statement isn’t Scriptural?

I can point to Scriptures that support all three elements.

God spoke the universe into being in Genesis 1; Jesus Christ (His Word) holds it together in Colossians 1; and He is obviously capable of doing things we would usually think not possible (just read about the miracles Jesus Christ performed in the Gospels.)

For someone who doesn't take questions, you ask a lot of them.

Yeah, he is just a taker. Demands from others what he is unwilling to do himself. Bit of a hypocrite if you ask me.

My post has not one single question. You really should learn to read. I made a statement that you believe that the universe is 6,000 yrs old or put another way God made the universe 6,000 yrs ago.

The bible does not contain the word 'universe'. And this is the problem with you and the bible. You lack reading comprehension ability and to compensate for this shortfall you make assumptions and substitute words that are not appropriate.

The example in question is that the bible says God created the heaven or heavens and you take that to mean the universe. Im still asking no questions because I know you have no rational answer.

So what’s your definition of heaven or heavens?

And what was in the universe before the creation account in Genesis? Certainly not the estimated 200 billion trillion stars because God created them during the creation account in Genesis 1.

For someone who refuses to answer questions you ask a lot of them. Yes I most certainly declare truth according to you.

You need to ask me? I have no definition. The onus is on you to explain why you removed the word heaven from the bible and inserted universe.
