The finite can never comprehend the infinite.
The life of the Earth is limited and hence measurable by time. The universe is not.
(Or if you prefer. Can you comprehend God? Probably not. Can you comprehend His creation? )
Being finite does not necessitate a lack of comprehension of the infinite. We don't know all, but we know the one that does.
"The life of the Earth is limited and hence measurable by time.
The universe is not"
Measurable in time, yet we have still to identify life forms not discovered.
The infinite mind can measure the infinite.
The finite mind cannot, nor can it know to the contrary that an infinite mind does not exists because then it(the finite mind) would have to be omniscient.
"Can you comprehend God? Can you comprehend His creation?"
Can I know all about God and His creation? Obviously not.
But I can, and do, know Him.
@sonship saidWe adapt to better survive. That is reason enough. If we hadn't, you wouldn't have the freedom or ability to abandon all sense of your origin, betray your humanity.
Anybody want to explain why we evolved as a species?
No theories ?
No beliefs about WHY we evolved as a species?

@sonship saidIt's not a question of being more comfortable. It's the reality. If I wanted comfort I'd imagine myself a deity.
@Ghost-of-a-Duke'Why' necessitates a calculated plan, a purpose.
Are you more comfortable being with no purpose and according to no plan?
@sonship saidAsked like a man who has lost the sense of his own humanity and the precious nature of life. Don't you have loved ones?
@SecondSonAdaptation and survival are principles of justification for evolutionary processes.
Kill or be killed.
Why not just BE killed?
No plan, no purpose . . . so what's so preserve worthy about LIFE then ????
We adapt to better survive.
What's the big deal about survival?
No plan or purpose . . . . survival be damned.
Why does any living thing need to survive?
That is reason enough. If we hadn't, you wouldn't have the freedom or ability to abandon all sense of your origin, betray your humanity.
What difference does anyone's origin or humanity or freedom make?
@secondson said”The finite cannot contain the infinite” was an axiom of Greek philosophy.

Smart educated Forum people, please help this poster know why we evolved as a species.
In a universe with NO plan and NO purpose we evolved as a species because ________________________________________?
"Only religion asks why" [paraphrased] is not a good enough reply for me.
We evolved to better adapt to our environment. Which part of this are you struggling with?!
I genuinely worry about people who are hollow when God is taken off the table.
That's nice. Now apply your good intelligence to the question of WHY we humans evolved as a species.
Especially ACCIDENTLY with NO forethought, NO plan, NO purpose, NO intended goal, NO design.
Under those circumstances we went from dirt to a human being by way of species evolution BECAUSE ______________________________?
@sonship saidIf you're going down the offensive path again of saying we evolved from dirt then don't bother replying. Our evolutionary journey has been amazing and didn't start in a garden.
