If all Christians were like RJH and whodey, we'd probably be throwing spears at some Muslims right now instead of discussing on an internet forum.

Idiots? Am I an idiot for wondering why God is regressive and not progressive?

So be it.

Do you hear those 50 million screams since Roe vs. Wade? Nope, neither do people like Suzy.

It just fascinates me how one can divorce themselves from their own conscience. Our political leaders have no problem with it either as they proudly proclaim their Christian faith.

Twerp? Yea, I can live with that. At least I can look myself in the mirror.

What did you mean about the government "rounding up Christians" in the US and taking "everything" from them (on page 1)?

Do you think we're all stupid?

No. The #1 reason I say you're an idiot is because you cannot seem to keep your political trash opinions out of the Spirituality forum. Somehow, you've convinced the mods to keep your political crap in this forum as long as you "flavor" it with "religious-speak".

whodey: "See? Regressive taxation is good!! God does it, so it's good!"

Please, please, PLEASE keep your garbage political OPINIONS out of this forum.

Tithing only continues because of churches with no other way of paying bills, or with greedy pastors.
The Mormon Church gives 20% and they also distribute among their people as needed. But they have to work for their needs.

That is your interpretation, but not everyone agrees.

So with the original set up, was God wrong? Should the top 1% have paid at least 50% and the bottom 3% paid nothing?
Its not an interpretation at all, in fact its capable of being Biblically established.

Tithing is a part of the mosaic law. Christians have not been under the mosaic law since Christ gave his life and fulfilled the law. If you are going to keep the the Mosaic law then you had better offer up turtle doves and young bulls for your sins, travel to Jerusalem once a year for the passover and gather palm branches for the festival of booths.

I agree with you. However, can I ask, do you pay into the JW organisation?

No personal offense meant, but I stopped taking you seriously a long time ago. I see from this thread that several others have done the same. At bottom, I think the primary issue is that your ability to objectively assess and faithfully redescribe differing viewpoints on various matters (political, philosophical, political, theological, political, etc -- oh and did I mention political? ) seems lacking, to put it politely. Almost invariably, your comments are predicated on grotesque caricatures concerning what others think.

The point being that is how Christianity began. They were peace loving people who tried to obey the laws of the land as they were thrown to the lions. There was to uprising, not riots, just peaceful people being butchered like sheep.

Politics and religion go hand in hand. They both involve ideologies that govern our morality and our laws. They both provide a "savior" and a "devil". The savior in the secular world is either capitalism or socialism, and the devil is either government or corporations. in the end, none of the political/religious philosophies can be proved. They are simply adopted through belief.

Jesus attempted to distance himself from statists. He did not petition them, did not try to fight them, and did not try to join them. He said that his kingdom was not of this kingdom. However, Constantine hijacked the faith and used it to conquer with the sword setting up oppressive theocracies.

In terms of other religions like Islam, someone like Mohammad conquered with the sword and set up Islamic governments via Sharia law. For Muslims, religion and politics are joined at the hip. They always have been and always will be. There is no separating them

Now you have one of two choices. You can stick your head in the sand and pretend the two should never be joined, which I agree they should not, or you can take the Islamic/Constantine approach and insist that they be joined. Either way this conversation is ongoing whether you like it or not. I personally despise politics. Anyone who knows my political leanings understand this.

I guess what troubles me the most are the Constantine of the world. They are the ones who espouse following Christ but don't follow his examples. They say they belong to a church but ignore church teachings on such things as abortion. It's almost as if they have replaced their God with the god of partisanship. So be it, but I will call them out on it and it is a topic that involves spirituality, or lack thereof.

What are you babbling about?

The question is a fair one. Those who embrace progressive taxation and are Christians should ask themselves, if progressive taxation is so great, why did God not first use it in the OT?

I find it odd that you are a JW, and as such, are suppose to steer clear of politics. However, you constantly interject yourself.

Why?

Does it trouble you to ask the question as to when God looks upon us as an immortal soul? I think it should be one of the first questions we ask.

Instead, you wish to brush it under the partisan rug in shame, because you know your position conflicts with that of your God. You prefer to please placate partisan politics than your own God.

Progressive taxation is result of a political process not a religious one. I thought the Bible basically suggests that Christians leave the governing (and the taxing) to the governments.

As a follower of Christ, to what degree do you comply with his instructions as reported Matthew 19:21 and Luke 18:22?
