That game given by Fat Lady was from a Simul. in 1983.
I deliberately walked into it to try 5. Bxf7+
I was trying to remember the game two years ago when I mentioned
Harding showed the idea in 'Counter Gambits'.
"...and have just spent a few joyful moments throwing the pieces about
creating some light-hearted entertaining games."
That was me trying to remember the above game.

Again I call it the Blackburne Shilling Gambit - Harding does not.
Anyone got a copy Master Chess - do I call the bloody thing The Blackburne
Trap in that?
Originally posted by greenpawn34I've got a copy of it at work. I bought it in a charity shop for 50p. Actually, to be honest, I bought a brown nylon tie for 50p and the lady in the shop threw in the book for nothing.

Anyway, I'll try and find it tomorrow and let you know what it says.
Mastering chess,a course in 21 lessons,Kopec,Chandler,Morrison,Davies,Mullen
I thought it was titled 'Mastering chess series,a course...' don't know why 😳
Yes,there is such a chapter on tactics.
Openings you mention:
a danish gambit line
a 4 move Marshall trap
a 5 move trap in the Philidor defense
6 short games but none with that variation
Rest are positions and patterns,Lipschuetz, rabbits with teeth and Napoleonical war fleets.
Originally posted by greenpawn34I thought so too until now, however it seems that after Ng4, Nh6! c3 Nc2! deflects the queen and shifts the advantage to black after Qxg4, because both the bishop and the g pawn are attacked. Better than Ng4 is 0-0 and the game is similar to what we are discussing, probably even worst for white because he can't kick the queen with d4. I guess Kd8 really is better! Incredible, because according to theory it's suppose to be worst (I should give my name to that variation). As for the Ke7 line, Black seems to somewhat hold after 8.c3 Ne6 9.d4 Qf6. Seems pretty unclear what to do with white. How disappointing that the best way to play is to take the knight in the beginning...
Kd8 does not hit the f7 Bishop so the Knight can move
to g4 and then e3 holding the g2 pawn.
Might be something init for Black as he is can claim a development lead
but 2 pawns down, a kickable Queen an uncastled King....
Ah..Nh6.
Never smelt that, did it in my head.
Suppose then go for the 0-0 'mainline' as if King gone to e7.
I play the Cochrane gambit OTB and this has a similiar feel.
Knight sac, uncastled King, big pawn centre.
Worth a punt, especially in blitz and remember the mind game
you have on Black who was expecting a quick win after 4.Nxe5.
I started playing the Cochrane Gambit as my exclusive choice against the Petroff in blitz, last year. I haven't lost a game with it yet. Even though the positions can be evaluated even or perhaps slightly better for black, the positions are so imbalanced that the game never reaches a position where the correct course of action is at all obvious for black. The real trick for white is just to avoid trades and toss those e and f pawns. The Cochrane's character (piece sac, uncastled king, attacking chances) reminds me of another variation (Algaier King's Gambit). I never much played it as white, but as black I would lose a game, go book up for next time, get into it, and lose all over again. Even a nice = or =+ sign from a book doesn't help you in those wild imbalanced positions.
