The first blog of 2022 starts with a review of CHESS the musical CD.
then the first competition of 2022 and how you can win the same CD.

A problem by Adolf Anderssen composed in 1848.

White to play and mate in 3. (solution in the blog)

A report on the recently finished The 2021 World Rapid and Blitz
Chess Championships with a couple of pictures and some games.

The games lead onto RHP examples of the same theme which this week is
a Queen, King and two pawns v a King & Queen and how to mess up the win.

We end with the one victim who has fallen for the 8 move trap in the Cochrane Gambit.

    Hi Geoff,
I had a couple questions about the "name that book" contest.

    1. Is it open to those of us across The Pond?

    2. Will the runner-up receive two copies of the "Chess The Musical" CD?

You already won before and caused a shipping dispute so now only Brits can win future contests ๐Ÿคจ

The competition is open to everyone though I cannot understand why anyone would want the C.D.

Not really bothered about the prizes thanks Geoff
I was just hoping for some other witty entries to make me smile.
If you really need to get rid of the cd and book, just take 'em to a charity shop.
Like the blogs.I may even learn something from them I can remember one day!

    Hi venda,

Charity shops are refusing the C.D. (they must have been reading the blog.)

Give me the address of your local Charity Shop. I'll post it and the book there!

If you really want to spend the cash on postage you may as well send it to me.
I'll probably use it as a raffle prize for the bowling club
    PM on the way.

Although the contest is over (and I was ineligible), here's a fictional chess book+author:

"Defending Lost Positions" by Drew Dow Knox.

That one gave me an idea.

'How To Do Chess Pairings' by I. Drew Lotts.

Everyone was ineligible but the thought of taking the first entry because I knew it
was in the U.K. popping me up as a cheapskate appealed. It will make good blog reading.
