People from the New England region (Boston, Cape Cod, etc.) put a 'w' in it.
I was raised in NYC. My wife, who says "ant" is from upstate NY. As far as I can tell, most people say "ant" up here.

Well, down here where I roam, in very rural southern America, we pronounce it like "AIN'T":

"Well hon, I'm headin' over to Ain't Jayne's house to see Unc."

Australians say ARNT for Aunt like the English, but we don't say CARSIL for Castle the way they do.

Is that more colloquial rather than more proper English

In the Southern and other parts of the USA some add an R that isn't there. So they warsh the winders etc
