@vivify saidSo she basically said humanity's existence in peril because 5 years has passed.
The OP of this thread is a based on a false premise: that Greta claimed humanity would end in 5 years. That's not what she said.
Greta posted that scientists warned something needs to be done about climate change within 5 years or that inaction could imperil humanity's existence.
There was no "climate lie" just some pathetic right-wingers losing their minds over something a 15 yr old girl said.
Do you agree with her that humanity's existence is now in peril?
@metal-brain saidMost of the world's scientists believe humanity is in peril due to climate change.
So she basically said humanity's existence in peril because 5 years has passed.
Do you agree with her that humanity's existence is now in peril?
@vivify saidThat is a misleading statement, what about due to humans use of fossil fuels? You know, carbon dioxide, plant food, the most likely cause/reason that the planet is 5 to 10 % greener than 20yrs ago.
Most of the world's scientists believe humanity is in peril due to climate change.
So what if the climate is in peril due to climate change, it has very little to do with humanity, nought you nor I can do about it. Personally, I give us at least 20,000,000 years, but admittedly I will not be betting on it.

That is not true. In fact, it is overwhelmingly false BS. Not even close to be true.
STOP SPREADING MISINFORMATION!
World is on brink of catastrophic warming, U.N. climate change report says
The world is likely to pass a dangerous temperature threshold within the next 10 years, pushing the planet past the point of catastrophic warming — unless nations drastically transform their economies and immediately transition away from fossil fuels, according to one of the most definitive reports ever published about climate change.
Beyond that threshold, scientists have found, climate disasters will become so extreme that people will not be able to adapt. Basic components of the Earth system will be fundamentally, irrevocably altered. Heat waves, famines and infectious diseases could claim millions of additional lives by century’s end.
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/31/world/europe/g20-climate-temperature-rise.html
The scientific consensus is that if the average global temperature rises by 1.5 degrees Celsius — 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit — it will significantly increase the likelihood of far worse climate catastrophes that could exacerbate hunger, disease and conflict.
@vivify saidSo you post another prediction as if that is proof of anything?

And when that doesn't happen? What then?
The planet has been warmer than that in the past. The world did not end.
@metal-brain saidYou just said it was "misinformation" that the world's scientists agree humanity is in peril. You were proven wrong. Why don't you acknowledge your falsehood?

As for what if "doesn't happen", it's already happening. Year after year records are being broken for historic flooding, tornados heatwaves and wildfires. And human death tolls keep rising.
@vivify saidIt is misinformation. You have proven nothing. Show me the poll and the poll questions. You sir were either duped or you are lying.

As you would expect one is in close accordance with the other. An incredible decrease in anyones book, a decrease vivify would like to turn upside down to reinforce her scare stories. Climate related deaths and climate related risk has plummeted at a phenomenal rate these last hundred years.
As mentioned previously, I'm not here to convince vivify of anything, she's a religious fanatic, totally blinded, but rather to toy with her on the end of my fishing line. So you have to let the fish have a little run sometimes, let a bit of line out.
@vivify saidRecords will always be broken, just a fact of life, and of course the bloody climate keeps changing, ti's what it does matey, for millions of years, and, even if you are right, I ask again, just what the hell are we to do:

Watch this, if you ignored it last time, an informative 7 minutes, I suspect you can concentrate for that long.

@vivify
From the link below:
"Fossil records reveal that atmospheric CO2 levels around 600 million years ago were about 7,000 parts per million, compared with 379 ppm in 2005. Then approximately 480 million years ago those levels gradually dropped to 4,000 ppm over about 100 million years, while average temperatures remained at a steady 72 degrees. They then jumped rapidly to 4,500 ppm and guess what! Temperatures dove to an estimated average similar to today, even though the CO2 level was around twelve times higher than now. Yes, as CO2 went up, temperatures plummeted.
About 438 million years ago, atmospheric CO2 dropped from 4,500 ppm to 3,000 ppm, yet according to fossil records, world temperatures shot rapidly back up to an average 72 degrees. So regardless of whether CO2 levels were 7,000 ppm or 3,000 ppm, temperatures rose and fell independently."

The hypothesis that CO2 drives temperatures has been debunked. Temperatures drove CO2 levels prior to the industrial revolution. The ice core samples proved that. CO2 levels lagged behind temperatures. So did methane, another greenhouse gas.
@wajoma saidI didn't see your graph in that long link.

Okay. Here:

The author of your the study in your link is by a debunked climate denier. This study wasn't done by an organization these are claims made by a single individual.
I don't know why I gave you the benefit of the doubt that your source was from legitimate scientists. I should've suspected immediately that you'd quote a hack criticized by the rest of the scientific community.
@jimmac saidThe answer is simple: move away from dependence on fossil fuels and well as enact laws requiring lower emissions as we do so.
even if you are right, I ask again, just what the hell are we to do
The problem is that this directly threatens the profits of the fossil fuel industry, who use their power and influence with politicians to stop this. Right-wingers continually side with the fossil fuel industry because they are paid by them. Ever wonder why it's only right-wingers who oppose climate change initiatives? That's why.
