What exactly is the criterea for being compared to a nazi? Is it even possible to be compared to a nazi? If so, then who is on your list?

A lot of the early national socialist program was aimed at bringing Germany out from under the effects of crushing depression, hyperinflation, and war reparations payments they had during the 1920-30's -- and it largely worked.

What was objectionable about Nazis and fascism was the descent into jingoistic nationalism, suppression of the rights of individuals, racism, penchant for military aggression, and dictatorial powers of the executive.

I think what whodey is getting at with his OP for this thread is: was it OK for him to compare John McCain to the Nazis [on the other thread] for his political stances which, according to whodey, could easily lead to a "nazi like nightmare".

That's using "nazi" in the poetic sense of the word.

Really, you'd have to be a dictatorship with fascistic tendencies and a love of well ironed uniforms to really be compared to a nazi.

I just wonder if comparing anyone to them is OK by you FMF. When I used the term, I did not mean to say he was 100% like them, rather, it was a tongue in cheek way to say the man leaned toward world conqUest a bit too much for my taste.

So enough about McCain, is there anyone that YOU would compare to a nazi?

Does anything you say really matter? Is anything you say serious? Does it matter whether you know who the Nazis were and what they did? It seems not.

When I think of the industrialized scale and methodology of the genocide they implemented, I tend to just let the word "Nazis" refer to the Nazis. I wouldn't use it to wave my political willy on an internet message board, as you do.

Probably no one in recent history is truly on the level of Hitler and the Nazis for sheer brutality and loathesomeness of its program.

But if I had to draw a short list of people and groups in the same ballpark, maybe I'd say

- Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge
- The Ottomans who carried out the Armenian Genocide
- Stalin and the henchmen who carried out his purges

There may be others, but these come to mind off the top of my head.

Somehow, I don't think John McCain's interventionist ideas run the risk of him ever being lumped in with that class.

The Klan hates John McCain because he let the Kenyan win. That alone makes him a Nazi! (That he insulted our great leader Sarah by sabotaging her chances for the future is also an indication that he was a secret Socialist!)

I would disagree with that.

Not that the Japanese didn't do some really bad things in China and other places during and before WWII, but they didn't put in the type of systematic murder/genocidal program that the others on the list did.

I tend to agree. The ghastly, ghastly Japanese were [for the most part] "The Imperial Japanese Army" rather than "the Nazis". Not on the same footing.
