No, Mueller had Strzok reassigned to avoid "an appearance of impropriety". There has never been a finding that Strzok''s supposed political views had any effect on his investigative work; he worked at the FBI for more than two decades and was considered one of its best counterintelligence agents.

His firing for essentially voicing political views that most American share was an outrage. And it was done in direct contervention of established FBI policies:

Aitan Goelman, Strzok's attorney, said FBI Deputy Director David Bowdich ordered the agent's termination on Friday. Goelman said that the deputy director's decision comes after the head of the office that normally handles disciplinary actions decided Strzok should instead face a demotion and 60-day suspension.
