Only two countries have had public executions so far this year: Afghanistan (ruled by the Taliban) and Iran (ruled by a hardline Islamist theocracy).
Having such an execution in the US certainly makes a point. Namely, the right-wing in the US has very much in common with Muslim extremists. This is not to say that the contempt for democracy, authoritarianism, and rigid animosity toward differences and diversity of thought, spiritual practices, and ways of living didn't already amply make this point.
This is a doomed avenue toward the future. That much the historical record makes perfectly clear. I assume the right-wingers cheering it all on have no children and plan to be dead before the crows come home to roost.
