Read his lips: there was no widespread fraud, Trump lost.
"Read his lips"

And the lips of Trump's own Attorney General; and the mostly conservative Supreme Court, with half of those conservatives chosen by Trump; and the Republican Secretary of State for the (red) state of Georgia; and almost 60 individual courts.

Now, if Republican Senators would only have the balls to approve a bi-partisan investigation into the actions and events leading up to the attack on Congress, January 6th, maybe America can know what really happened, instead of being bombarded with Trump's lies about a stolen election.

GOP: antifa and blm did it.

Democrats: we don't think that's true, but are willing to help look into it.

GOP: No! Don't look into it. Whoever said you should look into it? Was it Antifa? Karl Marx? Soros? Did Soros pay you to say that.

@wildgrass

It is obvious why some Rep. Senators do not want an investigation to go forward: they would be subpoenaed and grilled on their role in the affair.

I think some other Republicans are afraid to look into it because they are afraid of the truth and the responsibility they bear in the events leading up to January 6th. They are not ready to accept that Trump lied; they are not ready to accept that they themselves were complicit in Trump's delusional-reality because they did not speak out earlier against his lies.

The Republicans' excuse that the country should move forward and not re-run the 2020 election is lame. It's the Republicans themselves who are trying to re-run the election, for example commissioning a re-re-re-count in Arizona. The country cannot move forward so long as a significant portion of the electorate still believes Trump's Big Lie that the election was stolen.

They only need 10 Republican Senators to vote for it to move it forward.

Surely there are that many left who still have a spine (one hopes).

@Suzianne

Mitch McConnell's stance is particularly hypocritical. He condemned Trump's behaviour as despicable and wrong, but didn't vote to impeach because -- because McConnell delayed a sitting so there wouldn't be enough time to convene the Senate before Trump's time ran out anyway. And you can't impeach an ex-president later. But now that he has the chance to investigate an ex-president, he balks. Pfui. If Obama had done anything wrong and despicable, McConnell would have been raving for an investigation and an impeachment post haste.

Seriously you have to have a super majority just hold an inquiry? That’s proper nuts.

No, 3/5 of Senate seats must vote to invoke cloture to bring the issue to a vote. Otherwise, the Republicans can filibuster it to death.
