The difference between personal truths and “objective” truths.
With, obviously, scientific truths being relative to the information you have at the time, and new information can change that truth.

The dragon in the garage example is excellent.
And the guest really explains it quite well.

How do you define what’s true for you? Do you check your truths at all? Do you use outside your loop feedback to check it?

Take a subject like UFO’s: are they aliens?
Do you differentiate between your personal truth on the matter (what you believe) and what’s actually provable?
Do you even need proof? And if not, is that then a truth or just you wishing something into existence?

And this obviously comes down to politics as well. What makes you believe someone and not someone else? Is it the personality of the politician? Or is it “just because his/ her politics align with yours” ?

And how do you check that?

The irony is that Neil Degrasse Tyson is a global warming alarmist. What he believes is not true, but he probably honestly believes what he says. Not everyone he talks to knows about the Pliocene Epoch and how much warmer it was back then than now with the same CO2 levels. Since it was not the CO2 levels that caused the warming what was the cause? Alarmists do not want to acknowledge another cause. It is heresy to their religion.

Faith prevents people from believing the truth. Lots of people believe in god without any evidence. That means a lot of people do not want to accept truth. You are a good example. You did not want to accept the covid vaccines made available in the USA were made with gene therapy technology. Even after I proved it was true you refused to believe it. It was your religion to defend the gene vaccines and cling to lying so called fact checkers.

Political bias is like a religion. Faith is a huge obstacle to the truth. Like religion political bias is faith based. It makes people fight the truth. It took many debates with you to convince you mRNA vaccines were made with gene therapy technology. Debates are how you determine the truth.

Group think will not get you the truth. People you agree with will not lead you to the truth. You need to debate people you do not like to get the truth. Remember when you asked RHP to censor me for my opinions on the gene vaccines? The obstacle to the truth is you. You hate people that disagree with you and you want to censor debates, the very thing that allows truth to be known.

Censorship is the obstacle to truth because it ends debates. Big pharma convinced you with their propaganda that censorship was needed to save lives. Were lives saved by censorship?

Can you admit you were fooled? A lot of people do not want to admit when they were fooled. I can. I used to defend RFK jr. and I don't anymore. he is a huge disappointment. Trump as well.

Can you admit Fauci fooled you and regret believing his lies? Because if you are still defending his lies just how concerned can you really be about the truth? You defended the 1986 act in the USA that made vaccine makers immune from lawsuits. Now herbicide maker Bayer has been given limited liability for roundup. What is next? Pesticides? Plastics?

As for the original post, I think it's 70/30

70 percent facts that are undisputable and 30 percent believing whatever that person wants to believe and that solidifies whatever truth they want.

Humans aren't infallible.

I don't know. But that "scientist" is just running around guessing at everything and trying to be profound.

I used to watch him whenever he would end up on some show or something, but after he defended men playing in women's sports, I realized he has been compromised and woke out of fear.

I once read a quote:

"I'm a scientists. I'm more excited when my theories a proven wrong than when they're proven right."

I think this was from a Star Trek character. It basically means that when he's proven wrong, there's more to learn and be discovered.

A quote from Brian Cox, particle physicist:
"Real scientists are delighted when they find out they are wrong. And to me that is one of the greatest gifts that a scientific education can bring. There are too many people in this world who want to be right. And too few who just want to know."

These quotes represent attitudes I strive for.

Politics and religion have too much personal investment for most people to be completely objective.

If a politician I support turns out to be a criminal, it would hurt. There's so much hope behind a candidate and to have that dashed because of inconvenient revelations is difficult. How do I face the opposition sneering in my face? Should I still support the criminal for the "greater good" of accomplishing my political party's goal?

Human emotions are a bitch. What "feels" right tends to matter more than what is right. This is why religious people can dismiss fictional stories about magic while believing in supernatural miracles.

If you are married to the person of your dreams and every day is wonderful, would you want to know if that person cheated on you? Is "truth" worth shattering the happiness you have?

Human emotions. Can lead to kindness, love or hate and malice. They can help us seek truth or cause us to reject it.

Cons hate me when I say that. Not at the expense of the tax payer though.

Tax the rich more or make them remove automation and create jobs for people. They can choose which one.

Basic medical and dental should be available like Canada has it.

Nepotism is wrong and inheritance should be taxed heavily.

No foreign war interference.

God/Creator exists but organized religion is a cancer on the world.

Plenty of other stuff too but those are just off the top of my head.

Same for scientific claims. What do most sources say? Have you checked the evidence provided?

And most importantly: does the evidence contradict what you hope the truth is? If so, will that make you reject that evidence? Should you reject evidence just because you don't like it?

Their is no way that sleepy Joe Biden got 81 million votes when popular presidents of the past didn't even come close to that number.
The counters also blocked the windows late and all of a sudden, more votes for Biden.

I do not care about the 2020 election and never did. I don't know what happened.
Having Trump now is so much better than him having two terms in a row.
