[1] Eat as much as you want.

[2] Get rid of your mirrors and scales.

[3] Associate with people who don't discuss your weight.

The Very User-Friendly Diet is bound to sell by the truckload.

What might this be an analogy for?

Denial.
The idea that one can successfully achieve something by merely thinking about it without taking any action ...is living in denial. I agree.

But it is a seductive scheme to subscribe to, especially if the action [that it says you don't have to take] would require effort.

The person would 'first' have to 'believe' it's possible to change his eating habits, then have 'faith' that appropriate actions would cause weight loss, 'before' the effort is made to causate action.

Action is the last step, first requiring faith and belief.

If one writes some kind of self-help book that 'teaches' people that they don't have to do anything, but, instead, they can just think about it, then it's bound to be popular.

According to The Very User-Friendly Diet, [2] and [3] are the 'action steps'. No action to lose weight is suggested ~ in fact, quite the opposite.

Plus they can eat whatever they like and loose weight by just thinking about it. A great idea for a best-seller.

Knowledge fuels actions. If the knowledge is sound, faith is not required.

"The Mind is Everything , What You Think You Become " might be a good title.
I think that might be a Buddhist saying .
