Is Snowflake crystals development roughly analogous to the biolological Evolution process ?

No, there is no natural selection among snowflakes.

In what way?

What aspect of snowflake development are you asking is analogous to what aspect of biological evolution?

"X is like Y in manner Z" is an analogy. As such, analogies do not exist in nature independent of some mind, because "Z" is the product of a mind that thinks it has found something it can use in an argument. 😉

ive watched the clip and the two guys make the same mistake christians on here do. snowflakes are used as an example to show complexity arising from simplicity. they are not used as a comparison between a snowflakes structure and the development of a living organism.

maybe it would be easier if rather than snowflakes (which christians seem to stuggle with because its too tempting to compare everything about the snowflake with everything about organisms) i think looking at fractals would be a better way of understanding the complexity arising from simplicity point atheist are trying to make.

have a look at some pretty fractals -

http://www.google.co.uk/search?um=1&hl=en&safe=off&q=maths+fractals&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1821&bih=857&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=B266T-

a simple bit of mathematical tinkering and voila amazing, beautiful, random seeming, individual, unique structures appear.

Someone snuck a Romanesco broccoli into that search result -- confirming that the analogy is strong. 🙂

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanesco_broccoli

"Romanesco broccoli resembles a cauliflower, but is of a light green color and the inflorescence (the bud) has an approximate self-similar character, with the branched meristems making a logarithmic spiral. In this sense the broccoli's shape approximates a natural fractal; each bud is composed of a series of smaller buds, all arranged in yet another logarithmic spiral. This self-similar pattern continues at several smaller levels."

He didn't explain this did he. He is often very unclear.
But, from previous posts, I am guessing here that this might have something to do with the fact we assume they are both caused by mindless processes without a goal/plan with intent and in that way they are analogous -but that is just a guess because he is very unclear.
I cannot stomach wasting time going through all that stupid religious propaganda crap in his videos made by morons like himself just to check to see if something in his video link gives clues to what he may have meant.

First you all must listen to the second movement of Howard Hanson's Third Symphony. Debate will continue after this musical interlude.

it certainly is. its amazing how much beauty and complexity can be achieved with a few simple chords 🙂

And those simple chords stem from nothing more than 12 notes.

And it needs intelligence to bring them forward to our ears in just the right way, doesn't it?
