Matt 2 states what I already stated .. that they were wise men from the east. Nothing new regarding your points of :

"..who these guys were,
who sent them and
for what reason.
What about the star they followed?
Any idea who was behind that? "

I agree. I do not judge any. Those things are between God and themselves.
But thru much study of the Bible, really wanting to know what God expects of us and taking very seriously what displeases him, we feel it's not right to do the holidays.
But it seems it's ok for many to judge us. Not fair huh?

No it's not. It clearly states that neither the person who esteems a day, or the one who does not are to judge the other. No one is to judge others on this subject.
