Sin (from the religious perspective) and/or wronging someone (from the secular perspective) are like financial debt.

It’s best to pay it off/settle quickly because there is usually interest to pay on it; from either perspective.

Here's a thought: Jettison all of that Abrahamic sin crap from your mind.

Otherwise, on a secular/spiritual level I would agree about cleaning up after oneself as soon as possible, if possible.
