Perhaps it seems that way to you because there is a Congress that is largly dead set on keeping the President in a straight jacket not being able to do anything. So when he avails himself of Constitutional alternatives to work around obstructionists, its looks like a power grab to you. ...[text shortened]... hip![/i] "
There's some corruption there too as the low approval rating of Congress suggests.
Precisely.

He does not know enough to delegate the authority and get out of the way. 😏
The military doesn't exactly need any help. They get (and have for years) the largest slice of the budget pie, leaving so-called "representatives" like Mitch McConnell to give them more and more, even so far as taking from social programs for the poorest and neediest in this country. I say, "Bread, not bombs."

This is not to say that the men and women who sacrifice to protect this country don't need help. Suicide rates among the newly separated (for whatever reason) are higher than they've ever been. Too many of the homeless in this country are military veterans. Do you think Mitch McConnell cares one whit about that?

Many say the monarchy is a relic whose time is past.
I would advise not blathering on about a political system/country you clearly don't understand.

This, from someone who "blathers on" about a God he does not know or understand, and even rejects.

Ignorant or false, it is not for me to decide.

Correct, there is no reason the UK MUST have a monarchy, other than "that's the way it's always been." I doubt many have a personal memory of Cromwell.

Those who say "the crown IS the UK" are mainly those who are older, who have some heartfelt connection to the monarchy, which, for all I know, could be a significant portion of the UK. I also imagine that you'd have a long uphill trek trying to change the name of the 'United Kingdom', even without the crown.

Again, let me be clear. "Some" say this. I'm not saying this.

'On 30 January 1661, (the 12th anniversary of the execution of Charles I), Cromwell's body was exhumed from Westminster Abbey, and was subjected to the ritual of a posthumous execution. His disinterred body was hanged in chains at Tyburn, and then thrown into a pit. Cromwell's severed head was displayed on a pole outside Westminster Hall until 1685.'

Guess we preferred a Monarchy after all.

The monarchy is more popular today (across the UK) than it has ever been.

The Duke has spoken wisely...
