RHP's Messenger Of God seems to want to know if I am gay. I have been trying my best to steer him back to the question of Ali Da, his death, and the need for people with different belief systems to have some residual degree of respect and common decency for each other.

There was a bunch of devotees living in a small coastal town I used to frequent. Had a bookshop there: a section devoted to the guru. Only one I sampled was a book for children: not a book I'd give to any child for the simple reason that it disturbed the crap out of me. Something about the drawings: flatly unwholesome. The Jim Jones light started blinking. Burn it. Burn all that crap. Get it out of your house ...

Ignore his question if you don't like it.

Lest we forget that Japan, with its population of 120,000,000, and 500,000 book shops, and 20,000 junior high schools, has got something comparable going on.

Anecdote thrown by statistical judo!

Seriously, I don't see how my personal response to a particular book relates to the quantity of people, bookshops and junior high schools in Japan.

Sorry, the words "flatly unwholesome" and "children" in close proximity set off an anti-Japan whinge that may have been implanted in me by a hypnotist.

DOIK!

There they are again.

BROINK!

Let's leave it at that.

If you like, but let me reassure you that this is the Spirituality forum, where anything -- short of hate speech (if you start droning "Japan is a scourge" you won't get far) -- goes.

Is a critique of the Japanese education system -- productive of more suicides than anywhere else -- buried somewhere in your comment? If so, please tease it out ... Korean EFL students' description of their own experiences flabbergasted me -- every child is subjected to inhumane practices (whatever that means) as a matter of course ... (At first blush I thought you were scathingly dismissing my anecdote (as if an anecdote can be dismissed!) ... whatever the case, I'm quite interested in what you have to say.)

One day, all the anecdotes here will be mine. I am biding my time. Everyone else will be gone at some point.

But I digress.

Unconscionable pedophilic prurience and the general jaw-dropping pornification of pre-pubescent and barely pubescent girls is par for the flloodlit practice range in Japan - not in the slightest bit deviant, but utterly mainstream - with the stuff sold in Seven-Elevens, and consumed openly by shirt-and-tied salarymen on trains.

Ali Da, eat your departed heart out and dream of the 60,000,000 Japanese members (that got away) of your unwholesome little gig down by the Cape of Naughty Nubile Hope.

I never set foot in the Used Schoolgirl's Knickers Shop (soiled gussets and all, individually certified as being previously owned by a 12 year old, a 13 year old, a 14 year old, etc...) just round the corner from Ueno Station. Just a bit of window shopping, that's all, and eight long years of never getting used to it..

Is it right? Is it wrong? Is it just weird? Has it got anything to do with the Rape of Nanking?

Would a Japanese businessman shun you as a weirdo if instead of sniffing your soiled schoolgirl's panties you put them on your head?

It just disturbed the crap out of me. Something about the photos, the preoccupations, the accessories, the supposed open-mindedness of it all: flatly unwholesome. The Jim Jones light started blinking. Burn it. Burn all that crap. Get it out of your house...

Ah, now. You are talking Japanese TV, yes?
