I'll second this choice however there are some very difficult lines for black (the Rb1 lines) which I don't yet have a line against that I like.

The nimzo is a very very solid choice of many grandmasters and is fairly easy to play.
I prefer the Benoni (3. .. e6 and onwards). Tends to lead to more closed games. Less frenetic action.

Just for another option, look into e6, it is a fairly defensive opening, but usually a strong one.

1d4 e6 2c4 b6 (Queens indian)

1d4 e6 2e4 d5 (french)

It would be very hard for it not to transpose.

Well I guess its not technically the queens indian, but it ends up looking pretty close and definitly transposes into it.

e6 inviting French. Even if the invitation is declined, most commonly by 2.c4, you can still (sometimes) mimic french lines without too much danger.

I play the Nimzo/QID, but I may just switch from the QID to the QGD. I'm uncertain at this point.

I like when the invitation is declined... especially when white plays 2c4 because I really enjoy playing b3! 😀

Game 2025009
This game was very interesting at the end there.... up until move 12 I played a very good game... but for some reason white dropped his knight, but still, I was able to refute the attacks on my king side even though half of my pieces were trapped on the queen side.

Maybe you can try QGD slav variation (1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6) eventually leading to the merano variation
