regardless of what the books say......moves like 1...g6 transpose!!
and leave you playing against a guy who is smiling a lot!!
I used to play 1...g6 untill i realized it does transpose....
I used to play 1.b3 untill i realized in transposes into "colle" "English"....."Reti".....etc etc...
I used to play 1...b6 untill i realized against 1.d4 it turns into a "Dutch" defense.....
You can thank one of our members for that last one......

You state:

What's wrong with that? That's part of the fun of hypermodern openings -- trying to reach a middle game that suits you and hopefully is an uncomfortable and unfamiliar position for your opponents, instead of the standard e4 and d4 openings and the usuual responses. Granted, it's not the most ambitious way to play, but it can throw people off somewhat in the unique positions that result from b3.
And transposing to the English or Zukertort isn't that bad, if you are already familiar with them. The Reti-- that's a different story-- a good, but complex opening which requires alot of positional knowledge and great timing in the center as far as the e2 pawn is concerned.
I guess with hypermodern openings, you either love 'em or hate 'em--and they seem to be easier to play with White (that extra tempo helps!).

What do you guys think? Anyone have any interesting games with it? Anyone wanna play it? 1.e4 g6 2. d4 Bg7 Pretty fun but a little hard to handle!
