Half of my opening books blatantly state that Fritz or Shredder has been used in analysis.
Many of the books also deal with deviations in the opening - not just main lines. This is because they are specialist books & many of the openings I use are, if not obscure, t ...[text shortened]... e a context for what is correct play & what is inaccurate & more importantly why!
I only have 2 of those.

I know you know which one of them is but try and guess the other (clue: it won't be the one you 1st expect but it is a common opening played by me).

Modern Morra Gambit &...

Well you were about to get the Palkovi Two-Knights/Traxler book. Either that or Palliser's book on the Modern Benoni I'd guess.

Sure you will eventually leave the book, but while you are still in the book you are not playing chess.\
No, it is not the same, nor is active reading of chess books somehow a process that shuts down personal examination of the position. Using books to guide my play here requires more chess playing effort, not less. That's why I do it in only a handful of games, while the ideal of correspondence / turn-based chess is to use such "aids" in all games. The mass of information in my databases requires even more work than reading opening monographs.

Engines present clear numerical analysis of the position 12-20 plies deep without tactical error, and fewer positional errors year by year. They are a different cup of tea than books and databases.

I also play at a site where engines are permitted. The play there has an altogether different character than here.

This from a player who considers Internet timeouts as beating higher-ranked players? Obviously we're not talking about reading a book or consulting Fritz at the board, but using opening theory online. As it is anonymous, it's basically a learning experience from both sides and gives you the oppurtunity to practice for reality.
Besides, if everyone should be banned for this, CC and the TOS would make no sense! Q...E...D. 😛

No, using a book in correspondence chess is not cheating, even if you think it is. Players will not use any data for the most part if you ask, but calling it cheating is just showing ignorance to the established rules of this site and correspondence chess wherever it may be played.

I use books & a database whether my opponent likes it or not.
90% of my games go out of book before move 10-12 anyway.

And how exactly do you marshall this rather pathetic idea of yours?
If someone plays 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.O-O Be7 6.Re1 b5 what do you do? Ban 'em both because they're playing theory? 🙄
Grow up & face facts.

If you want purely unassisted chess, get out more & play OTB. Otherwise, play by the rules of CC on this site & stop whining.
