    Hi there, can anyone tell me what a 'half move' is please?

    It is one move by one side. In notation 1.e4 e5 represents 2 half moves making up move one - one by either side.

    The number of half moves shown under Game Details is the number of moves by each person since the last piece was taken or the last pawn was moved.
    After 1. d4. d5 , it will show the number of half moves as two.
    After 1. d4. d5. 2. dxc , it will show the number of half moves as zero.
    Under chess rules a draw can be claimed if there have been 50 moves (ie. 100 half moves) without a piece being taken or a pawn being moved.
    In all the games I’ve played on this site, I’ve never got anywhere near that, but if I ever did, I guess having this shown under Game Details would help.
