I got PARANOIA immediately (and also from time to time) and PA RAN, but would you mind explaining the rest of the clue?
Probably should have said "... even comical delusion" to be pedantic.
@orangutan saidOh! Hahaha. Thank you. However, if you are not a pro cryptic setter already, maybe that's a good thing for the people of Earth, because we have enough other things driving us mad already. 😉
You're correct with PA and RAN for father and managed respectively.
oddly comical is every other letter in comical = OIA

@Paul-Martin saidWho should have said? Do you thing paranoia is funny?

And it seems that we are back to my observation that recently only orangutan and Paul can solve each other's posers.
How clever are they?!!!

@orangutan saidOh, thank you, and I'll try to keep that in mind despite my luckily not-too-frequent errors of reference.
Paul is pointing out the flaw in my clue.
Where I said "oddly comical", strictly speaking that should have yielded CMCL (the odd letters). "Even comical" correctly gives the OIA.
Still. It's just a word game.
However, after I had sent my apologies to you and Paul by PM, with a fuller apology to Paul re: why his poser seemed to involve my family name, he made no private response to me before his "even comical" post, and now I regret that I have disclosed my family name to him, because I have even less reason to trust him now.
Just a word game? One that involves unusual interpretations?
Which spy agency are you two working for?

You asked for an explanation for the OIA and I kindly supplied it.
@Paul-Martin saidYou have perhaps provided more information than you might have intended.
